Here is My Villain Review of Yon Rogg
Now I'm going to discuss the character of Yon Rogg who is one of the supporting villains in What If…? season 2 and explain how it took one of my least favorite MCU villains and made him a lot more interesting and much more developed as a villain.
Origin- Now Yon Rogg´s Origin in Captain Marvel is very bland and very uninteresting. But in this show he sort of gets an origin. It's implied that Yon Rogg was known to be a criminal and a very skilled hacker on Xandar Of the 5 years that the Planetary Shield locked everyone in. Yon Rogg escaped in this called the Novacore to enlist Nova Prime to try to catch him and arrest him. I think the show did a terrific job of giving Yon Rogg a better origin story than Captain Marvel did because this one actually shows what happens. Well the movie just pointlessly explained his origin.
Character- Now Yon Rogg as a character and Captain Marvel was so bland he'll just be a generic Kree warrior he was just there to give expedition And now that he didn't really have a personality he was just a very bland and one dimensional villain. But I have to say, in this show Yon Rogg is actually very fun. He actually meant to say he had a very interesting and fun personality. Also Yon Rogg actually has a few moments that are actually really funny. I think the show did a remarkable job of making Yon Rogg an actual character because in Captain Marvel he wasn't really a character, he was just a generic Kree Warrior with no personality.
Motivation- Now Yon Rogg In Captain Marvel he had a very terrible motivation he just wanted to kill all The Skrolls and Kill Captain Marvel and take over Holla and that's it that was his whole motivation It was so generic and just one of the worst MCU villain motivations. But I have to say his motivation in the show is actually way better and more stronger than it was in the film because Yon Rogg essentially wants to use Nebula and her team to break through security so he and Noble Prime can escape and destroy Xander and make the Kree more stronger. I have to say the show did a tremendous job of giving yawn a way better and much more stronger motivation than Captain Marvel did because his motivation was so bland and so flat and just a generic and weak as hell MCU villain motivation.
Best Scenes- Now Yon Rogg in Captain Marvel did not have any good scenes because he was just very flat and unmemorable and just a boring and not interesting MCU villain. But I have to say the show actually gives Yon Rogg a lot more awesome and interesting moments. If I had to pick my favorite moment with Yon Rogg it'll have to be the scene where he betrays Nebula and not only was it really shocking but it made sense because nebula thought they were allies But then she find out that she was working for Nova Prime the whole time and it's probably the most suspenseful and surprising moment of the entire show and It did all thanks to Jude Law excellent and entertaining performance. I think the show did a tremendous job of giving Yon Rogg actually interesting and incredible moments and compare to the movie Jude Law sounds like he is giving a much bigger and more perfect performance they did in Captain Marvel because in Captain Marvel Jude Law with just sleepwalking throughout the performance he didn't really give much of an effort. But in this show he is giving a lot of effort in this performance and you can tell he's actually having fun as the character.
Evil Deeds- Now Yon Rogg in the movie wasn't even evil that much? He only did a few bad things and that's what made him so bland and generic. But I have to send this show here a lot more evil than he was in the movie because Yon Rogg does things like pretending to be Nebula´ s ally and betraying her he tries to kill her. He breaks out of jail and tries to destroy all of Xandar so the Kree Empire can grow stronger in power. I think the show did a fantastic job of making yawn rogue a lot more evil And more despicable than he was in the film because in Captain Marvel he was not even threatening he wasn't even dark but in this show he's a lot more menacing and a lot more intelligent than he was in the film.
Conclusion- Yon Rogg Is a very interesting villain because what if took one of the worst MCU villains it's about made him a lot more interesting and a lot more intimidating than he was in the film I think his motivation is way more stronger in this film because they actually explain more this motivation than the film did. The scene where he betrays Nebula was very powerful and very surprising and it all thanks to Jude Law's excellent and entertaining performance. I think Yon Rogg is up there with The Collector in terms of taking one of the most boring MCU villains and improving him by making him better. I'm going to give Yon Rugg 10/10.
