Here is My Movie Review of Birds of Prey

 Here is my movie review of Birds of prey. 

Now when it comes to this movie I'm very split on there's stuff I like but then there's stuff I think is pretty dumb and in terms of a DCEU film it's not as bad as a lot of other ones but as like a Harley Quinn movie it's a little weird because it's trying to be like Deadpool with Harley Quinn breaking the fourth wall which is kind of weird. But overall I think this film is okay because it's not one of the best comic book films of this decade to be honest I think movies like eternals and Deadpool and Wolverine and even Ant-Man the Wasp Quantum Mania are a lot better than the film.

The storyline in the film is just so weird because if folks is on Harley Quinn breaking up with the Joker and she finds this little girl named Cassandra Kane who she has to protect from Black Mask who is trying to kill her because she had a diamond that he wants and Harley Quinn has to do everything in our power to protect the kid and that's basically what the story is for this film it's kind of like Deadpool too in a way because I had a lot of the same themes but I think Deadpool 2 had a much better storyline.

The acting is not terrible but I think the performances Are just okay that there is one standout performance in this movie but most of the characters are just either bland or just really badly written. To be honest I feel like this film is are up there with the performances in Iron Man 3 in terms of being Inconsistent because in that film there were some good performance But some of the performances were really bad or some of the actors were just flat out wasted and didn't do anything.

Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn In the film And her performance is still incredible even parts where this movie is not working Marco Robbie still give that her all she still makes the character her own and she is still entertaining and I will say though unlike suicide Squad for 2016 it's a little bit better written compare to that film because and that film feels just really boring despite the fact that She did give a good performance it'll jet the character that was very boring and not funny. Now the character of Harley Quinn Is really weird in this movie because She does some really weird things like she breaks the fourth wall and Usually Deadpool does that because Harley Quinn is not a A meta Character Should a full-on villain Who just enjoys killing people and how better be good in this movie was just kind of weird it's like she's supposed to be just pure evil and how did I look after a little girl is just kind of weird. The scenes with Harley Quinn they're good but they're not that memorable there are a few decent things that they deal with her like the bondage she has with Cassandra King which I'll get to that character later but I think like interaction why they did have some decent Moments together. But I feel like m of Harley Quinn's moments are just so inconsistent some of them again are really good but some of them are just flat out dumb. The chemistry between her and Mary Elizabeth Winstaed, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Ewan McGregor is still excellent.

However the absolute big standout of the entire film is Mary Elizabeth Winstaed as Helena Bertinelli/Huntress and look even parts where this movie is not working Mary Elizabeth Winstaed still does a glorious job as this character and you can tell that she was having a lot of fun as The Huntress. Now out of all the characters in this film Helena Bertinelli/The Huntress Is my favorite character because you do feel bad for because when she came home she saw her whole family being brutally murdered by Victor Zsasz and everything she became a skilled fighter with a crossbow and she wanted Revenge on Victor Zsasz for the death of her family. But she's also really funny because she gets annoyed by the rest of the team so she is similar to Ava and Thunderbolts how she got annoyed with her team because they would not stop messing around. Now the scenes with The Huntress are probably some of my favorite moments in this film whether it is her just killing a lot of people with her crossbow or her explaining to the other members of the team about her origin or her keep telling the team that she does not have anger issues it does lead to some really intense but some really funny moments throughout the film and I think all of her moments are probably the best moments throughout the entire film. Fun fact actresses like Sofia Boutella, Margaret Qualley, Mary Elizabeth Winston, and Christin Millioti were all considered to play the Huntress.

    Chris Messina plays Victor Zsasz In the film And his performance is probably the most forgettable performance in the film because he doesn't really do anything as this character and it feels like he was miscast I think if someone should have played Victor Zsasz maybe Woody Harrelson or Josh Brolin I think those two actors were made a lot more sense. Now the character of Victor Zsasz is completely weird because they make him crazy but they don't make him crazy enough because in the comics he is supposed to be the vicious killer who enjoys killing people and wherever he does he cuts himself to tally how many people he has killed but in this movie they make him Black Mask´s love interest which is so weird and they just meant two family friendly which is not what you're supposed to do because this is supposed to be a deranged serial killer.  the scenes with Victor Zsasz are really forgettable because he doesn't really do much in the film all he does is he talks to Black Mask and he kills like a few people beside from that I think all of this moments are incredibly forgettable.  Fun fact actors like James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, Adam Driver, Aidan Gillen And Johnny Depp were all considered to play Victor Zsasz.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell plays Dinah Lance/Black Canary in the film and her performance is okay I think she does an okay job as this character. now the character of Dinah Lance/Black Canary it's just forgettable and plus she doesn't really play that big of a role in this film she does have some funny moments in the phone but overall I just find her very bland and forgettable. the scenes Dinah Lance/Black Canary are just okay there are some good moments with her like hurrying her power than the third act and there's some funny jokes like her reacting to Harley Quinn stealing her car and Huntress is laughing at her so there are some good moments but overall most of the stuff that the film does with her character just kind of forgettable. Fun fact actresses like Alexandra Daddario, Jodie Comer, Blake Lively, Vanessa Kirby, Janelle Monae, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell were all considered to play Black Canary.

Ella jay Basco plays Cassandra Kain and her performance is not terrible she does the best that she can and there are mamas in the phone but she does give a good performance but it feels like the check cast an adult actress to play this character. I think that makes a lot more sense that they cast like Salma Hayek or Angelina Jolie I think those two actresses would make a lot more sense. but the character of considered Kain is so dumb because rather than being the skilled assassin who had the daughter of Lady Shiva in this movie for some reason they make her into a little kid who's a thief and that's her entire character said he didn't really develop much with her. the things with Cassandra Kane are entertaining to watch but they're all the kind of forgettable the scene she takes down black mask was so dumb because black mask could just kill her if she would have been dead but for some reason her and Harley Quinn are able to take down one of the most intimidating villains in Batman's rugs gallery which doesn't make any sense.

Probably the worst performance in the entire film is Ewan McGregor as Roman Sionis/Black Mask. What is really a disappointing is that Ewan McGregor Is a fantastic actor if you watch him and stuff like Jack the Giant Slayer Christopher Robin from 2018 you can see that he really he can be very heroic Like how he is as Elmont from Jack the Giant Slayer or he could be really sweet and light-hearted like how he is in Christopher Robin as Christopher Robin. But this is probably his worst performance he has ever done. Now the character of Black Mask is awful because he is not tough he is way too scrawny to take seriously as a villain and his motivation all he wants is a diamond that Cassandra Cain stoll from him and that's it that is his whole motivation is just really boring and unmemorable of a villain motivation. Also his personality is all wrong because in the comics he is a vicious and sadistic character because he burned his parents to death when they were still alive and he'll also the leader of a cult and he tried to kill Bruce Wayne/Batman by starting a fire But not this Black Mask because from here he becomes a spoiled man child like Lex Luthor from Superman 2025 and starts yelling all his lines now I'm not saying he can't raise his voice in this movie. But he needs to have a level of intimidation. He's one of the best Batman villains and he's not a big loser like the Ten-eyed man and when these comic book movie villains get under pressure they start to break down and yell and for me this is where they lose all of their intimidation factor. Also there is a scene where Roman Sionis/ Black Mask goes into a bar and he just screams the word fuck and people look him and if he's crazy and you're supposed to take it seriously but you really don't because It is way too cringe worthy and weird to watch. Also the way Black Mask dies in the film is so dumb Harley Quinn kicks him off the bridge and a grenade blow up in his pocket and that's how he dies and it's probably one of the dumbest villain deaths of The entire DCEU. To be honest Black Mask is so bad that I actually gained more of an appreciation for Taskmaster from Black Widow and you should know that the villain I don't even like. But somehow Black Mask managed to be even worse. Because at least with taskmaster she had some good moments and I did feel somewhat bad for her because you could say she is not an interesting villain you could say that even she was suffering through loneliness and depression when she was experimented on General Drakeov. Also I feel like Black Mask is kind of in the wrong movie because he just feels so out of place because to be honest I think they should have put him in the Batman and I think they should have went with a different villain for this film and that should have been Gaggy Joker´s original Sidekick I think him being the villain would make a lot more sense because he will want revenge on Harley Quinn for replacing him but rather than doing that they decide to put this evil crime boss in a overly silly Comic book film and that completely ruined the awesome potential that Black Mask could have had at the villain in a Batman movie played by a different actor. Fun fact actors like Nicolas Cage, Kevin Bacon, James Franco, John C Riley, Shia LaBeouf, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Mads Mikkelsen, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Statham, Billy Bob Thornton, Robert De Niro, Matthew McConaughey, John Hamm, Ben Mendelsohn, John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, and Sharlto Copley were all considered to play Black Mask

The directing by Cathy Yan is really weird because for some reason she tried to make this movie like Deadpool 2 in terms of having Harley Quinn look after a little kid and also trying to make this like a meta comedy film Which is just really weird. Now she does get some stuff right manually with the character of The Huntress they get her right in terms of the personality and I didn't mind that she simplified Huntress's backstory it's kind of similar to the way In Avengers age of Ultron where they simplify Vision's origin so it doesn't confuse the audience. But for some reason she decided to make black mask really dumb by making him really hammy and really ridiculous by making him really not really smart by making him a bar owner and not a criminal mastermind. also for a movie called birds of price you really pushes them off to the side so it can be mostly a Harley Quinn movie. So overall I think she did a lackluster job directing this movie some of the stuff that she did I liked like the stuff with Huntress But what she did the black mask was so dumb and really weird It feels like she doesn't know who Black Mask is and to be honest if this movie went directed by Christopher Nolan I know for a fact that he would have made black Mask comic book accurate.

So in conclusion well I don't hate this movie I feel like this film is super forgettable because the storyline is just really weird because haven't revolved around hardwood when accentuate protecting this little girl and trying to take down black mask it's just such a weird idea That's just really dumb and then some parts of the story it tried to be like a meta comedy movie and it just feels like it was trying to be like Deadpool 2 except Deadpool 2 Well the lawnmower funnier and the storyline with a lawn mower entertaining I did double too had better villains because you had Josh Brolin as cable Starts out Add a villain but then becomes a anti-hero and then you have Ryan Reynolds voicing a more comic accurate Juggernaut Well the villain this movie they're just really boring Victor Zsasz  doesn't do anything Black Mask is so stupid and just so uninteresting and such a waste of potential because black mask if he was played by like Liev Schreiber Or maybe like Michael Shannon he could have been a really awesome villain but since they cast Ewan McGregor they kind of took that idea and kind of ruined it. I think Black Mask is up there with Kro from eternals as one of the worst villains of the 2020s. Also again black mask is so terrible that This film actually got me to appreciate taskmaster from Black Widow and again you didn't know how much I am not the biggest fan of that character But some how black mask managed to be even worse than she wasn't that movie because At least with Taskmaster she had some good elements to her and you did feel bad for her in a way because she was lonely and depressed because she was experimented on and she pulls more of a threat than Black Mask did in this movie and that's really stupid when mediocre MCU movie had a better villain than a R Rated DCEU movie that just means this film failed black mask big time The performances are not bad because I still think Margot Robbie is amazing and Mary Elizabeth Winstaed does steal the show as the Huntress she's still funny and she's still entertaining. Also I feel like all of Huntress ´ s scenes are the best moments in the film. But overall I did think this film is very forgettable because it's trying to copy Deadpool 2. But Deadpool 2 again and they better movie and aside from Margot Robbie's performance and the stuff they did with Huntress most of the stuff in this movie was very forgettable and again Black Mask was done really bad in the film. So I say skip this movie and go watch Deadpool 2 have a much better storyline and have way better villains. So I give this film a 4/10.
