 Black Mask is a Terrible Villain

Now when it comes to birds of prey I think the film is very forgettable. It does have a good performance from Margot Robbie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and there were a couple jokes that I found really funny and in particular all of Hunter's jokes were the best jokes in the film. It is still just a complete rip off to Deadpool 2 in terms of the story. Now what seems to be universally agreed upon is that the one redeeming quality of the film is Black Mask and at face value yes he was, Ewan McGregor did a terrific job with his performance and his scenes were the best parts of the film. But the more I thought about it, not only did I learn that Black Mask was really dumb and he is a rip off of the Kingpin. But he is actually a terrible villain and I'm going to go through all the reasons as to why

5. His motivation was really dumb and didn't make sense. Black mask essentially wants to kidnap Cassandra Kane so he can get a diamond from her and become the ruler of Gotham and I'm just here thinking this is not a particularly interesting motivation even Harley Quinn points out how dumb it is. Also his motivations were not thought out the same way Starro’s motivations were in The Suicide Squad. With Starro You see a character that is deeply hurt and wants revenge on the people who tortured him and took him away from his home world that is outer space. So you clearly understand why Starro acts the way that he does because he was mistreated by the humans. But with black mask it just came up really dumb and really weird and on the page he's not even in the same league as Starro.

4. The darkness for Black Mask is massively toned down. The scenes where  black mask is interrogating or threatening Harley Quinn are really pulled back. I mean Ant-Man and the Wasp quantum Mania was more intense when Kang was torturing Ant-Man by threatening to kill his daughter Cassie by snapping her neck until Ant-Man told Kang to stop. Or even Kingpin for Marvel's Daredevil when he violently cracked a guy's head open and raised his voice when he saw Daredevil in the alley way and said I'm going to kill you. But with Black Mask there's nothing sinister about him and that took away from all of Black Mask's intimidation and fear factor To the point he come off as generic DCEU villain the only reason why and Doesn't fall into that category is because of Ewan McGregor's performance but from a writing point of view he is no better than the most disposable of comic book movie villains and on the page he's not even in the same league as Kingpin.

3. Why is Black Mask even here? Why does this  movie have such a serious villain that's like Parasite in Shazam or Rainbow Raider in the Dark Knight. Black Mask should have been saved for a different movie possibly one that has higher stakes more intense and dark moments in a film that is worthy of his presence I mean just think about the movie that set Black mask up is a Harley Quinn movie that's going to be a stain on Black mask that will never leave him the next Batman villain huh Joker made his debut in The Dark Knight. Black Mask made his and birds of prey.

2. The False Face Society. This was so ridiculous to me because you can't properly build up Black Mask and his team if they change everything about his evil team because in the comics he it's about to be a member of this cult called the false face Society and that's supposed to be sadistic like him but in the movie they was nothing bunch of sexist guys who hated women and that's not what the false face Society is about and they changed the name from the false face Society to the Black Mask Club and that was a very stupid and really unnecessary change.

1. What did Black Mask even do and the constant Cartman levels of stupidity. Really think about this what did Black Mask do in this movie because we all know what the Joker did Joker robbed a bank Tried to get Batman Break his no kill role by having him kill him and went after Harvey Dent and corrupt him and made him into two face and killed Rachel tried to corrupt the commissioner and plunged the city of Gotham in the chaos. Wow what a way to do with a very iconic villain. So what does black mask do with his introduction scene? He captured Harley Quinn And tell her to get the diamond sexually assault a girl and tried to kill Cassandra Kane and goes out like a loser and that's all he does. He doesn't really do anything intimidating. In this film also makes him like Cartman because constantly Black mask will throw a tantrum by saying the word fuck and yelling at the top of his lungs and it really ruined the character of Black Mask and they made him really lame and really stupid which is really dumb because Black Mask is supposed to be really smart because this is the same guy who tortured Catwoman's brother-in-law and and forced Catwoman to eat pieces of the corpse. But in this film they made him a sexist jerk and a Cartman stereotype. So all those reasons and more as to why I think Black Mask is a terrible villain Ewan McGregor is the only saving grace of this character and the only reason why Black Mask is being praised at all but the storytelling is not equal to is performance and Victor Zsasz think Kro from Eternals and The Shocker from Spider-Man homecoming and you get this movie´s Victor Zsasz he'll go down the one the boring comic to movie adaptations you will ever see. Not to mention the final confrontation between Harley Quinn and black mask Just came off at the lackluster ripoff to the climax in Batman 89 between Batman and Joker. This just shows that Warner Brothers did not do a terrific job of adapting Black Mask and they just made him a loser.
