Here is My Movie Review of The New Mutants

Here is My Movie Review of The New Mutants

Now it comes to this movie a lot of people say this is the worst X-Men film of all time and to be completely honest I never really hated this film in fact I re-watched it again and I still enjoy the film now is it as good as X2 X-Men United no I think that film is way better acted and had a much better storyline but I will say that something that The newer X-Men films particularly X-Men Apocalypse and X-Men Dark Phoenix is that those films failed to make me care about the characters because aside from Magneto and Professor X. I didn't really care about any of the characters because the films didn't develop them that well. But luckily in this film they get developed really well and it really reminds me of Thunderbolts* because all these characters are suffering through loneliness and depression. Even Magik who is very snotty in the film even goes through loneliness and depression and I'll talk about her later. Now this is going to shock a lot of people but this movie is actually in my top five favorite movies of 20/20 yep I say I really love this movie now is it the best comic book movie of the 2020s? no I think movies like Shang Chi, Thunderbolts*,Superman 2025, and Spider-Man No Way Home are better written but I think this is the most entertaining film of the 2020s.

Now let's talk about the storyline because something that I really didn't care for the newer X-Men movies in particular X-Men Apocalypse and X-Men Dark Phoenix is that the storylines were just way too messy and I didn't care about it at all. But the storyline this movie way easier to follow because it focuses on these five mutants who are in this facility and the main mutant Dani Moonstar who is suffering through the Lost of her dad because you find out that she accidentally killed her dad with her powers and on the way to start the bond with these five mutants which includes Magik Wolfsbane, Sunspot, and Cannonball and and she starts to befriend them. Now  they are all looked after by Dr Reyes and at first they think she's really good but it turned out she wanted to kill all the mutants because she viewed them as sick dogs that need to be put down it's up to you Dani and her friends to take down Dr Rayes and escape the facility and that's basically what the story is for this film. Now the storyline is really interesting because it kind of reminds me of Thunderbolts because the exact same thing happens all these characters are in this facility and they all have to get long and they are all suffering through loneliness and depression and they have to take down a bigger threat because in They had to go up against The Void which was Bob's darker half and in this film it is Demon Bear which is actually Dani´s spirit animal that she has to learn to control and protect her friends.

Now what comes to the newer X-Men movies the acting was very inconsistent because some of the films like Logan and the Deadpool movies had really amazing acting in them well other films like X-Men First Class and X-Men Day the Future Past the acting was very mixed some of the performances were really awesome well some of them were either bad or just kind of bland. But with this film the acting well. I don't think it is as perfect as the acting in X2 X-Men United. But I think the acting in this film is still really amazing because you can tell that all the actors are having a lot of fun.

Blu Hunt Play Dani Moonstar In the film and she has one the month emotional and one of the most captivating performances of the entire film and you could tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character. Now Dani Moonstar as a character you really feel bad for because she accidentally killed her parents with her powers which she summoned demon bear and ever since then she didn't have friends because she was lonely and depressed up until she met her new mutant friends. The scenes with Dani Moonstar are incredible whether it's her bonding with the other mutants or her accidentally letting out her spirit animal demon bear it does lead to some really emotional and some really scary moments throughout the film and she's it's kind of similar to the scene and Thunderbolts where Bob accidentally left out his evil persona The Void. The chemistry between her and Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Maisie Williams, Henry Zaga, Alice Braga is terrific.

However the actor who steals the entire show is Anya Taylor Joy who plays Illy/Magik. Now the most interesting thing about this is that in the comics magic is Colossus's little sister and she's about 10 years old. Now they had to cheat here with Anya Taylor-Joy because she was around her twenties when they made this film and to be honest her performance is still tremendous and even though she is a lot older than the character than the comics and you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character. Now out of all the characters Magik is my favorite character in this film because she is really interesting because she is  judgmental and snotty towards Dani Moonstar because she's Native American. But she does eventually start to like her and she wants to help her friends escape the facility. Also you can say that even Magik was lonely and depressed because she didn't have any friends. The scenes with Magik are my favorite moments in the film, whether it's her fighting  demon bear or her doing the lie detector test with her friends. It does lead to some really badass and a lot of fun moments throughout the film. To be honest the scenes  remind me of Ava's scenes in Thunderbolts where she would get annoyed by her team. It´s similar here where Magik at first is kind of snotty towards her friends but then she starts to like them. The chemistry between her and Blu Hunt is brilliant.

Now let's talk about Cannonball played by Jonathan Buyers himself Charlie Heaton and his performance is probably the most emotional and one of the most captivating performances of the entire film. Now the character of Sam /Cannonball Is they really tragic and really fun character in fact he is probably my second favorite character in this film because his childhood was really sad because he accidentally killed his dad in the coal mind with use powers by  accident he used his powers and ever since then she made a vow never to use his powers again and you can say that he was also lonely and depressed because he didn't have any friends and he was an orphan because he accidentally killed his father and want to help his friends get out of the facility. The scenes with Cannonball are probably some of the most entertaining moments throughout the film whether it's him telling his tragic backstory involving his father or him saying in the climax when he tells Roberto to nut up that was really funny because he was trying to encourage Roberto aka Sunspot to face his fear because he's afraid of bears it did lead to some really sad and some really funny moments throughout the film. The chemistry between him and Blu Hunt  is magnificent.

Maisie Williams probably gives one of the most beautiful and one of the most emotional performances as the character of Wolfsbane because I think her performance is up there with Lewis Pullman's performance as Bob from Thunderbolts as one of the most emotional performances in a Marvel film. Also you can tell that Maisie Williams is having a lot of fun as this character. Now Wolfsbane as a character is probably out of all the characters the most tragic character because her backstory is very screwed up because she is a Catholic because her parents were religious. But unfortunately the humans accuse them of doing witchcraft and the praise burn them to death and they branded Wolfsbane with the letter w on her shoulder which stands for which and you can tell that she was lonely and depressed because he didn't have a friends her parents were both were burned to death in a church and all the humans hated them because they think that she is a witch.  Also she wants to help her friends get out of the facility. Something else I really liked is that in this movie they make Wolfsbane LGBTQ because she has feelings towards Dani Moonstar. The scenes with Wolfsbane are tremendous whether it is the scene of her meeting Dani Moonstar for the first time and falling in love with her or her seeing her worst fear which of the priest branding her for a second time and it does lead to some really dark and some really emotional moments throughout the film. The chemistry between her and Blu Hunt is perfect.

Henry Zaga plays Sunspot in the film and he probably gives one of the most emotional and probably the most entertaining performances of the entire film because you can tell he is having a lot of fun as this character. Now the character of Sunspot is really incredible because much like the rest of the mutants he goes through loneliness and depression because he accidentally burned his girlfriend with his powers and he didn't have any friends until he meant the other mutants. The scenes with sunspot on Incredible, whether it's him fighting the smiling men or him hanging out with the rest of the mutants. Or the scene where he sees his girlfriend in the swimming pool and he decided to swim with her but they find out it is a hallucination and she tries to kill him and he has to protect himself to overcome his fear of the death of his girlfriend and it's probably one of the scariest moments in the film and it does lead to some really heart pounding and some really entertaining moments throughout the film. The chemistry between him and Blu Hunt  is magnificent.

Alice Braga plays Dr Reyes In the film and she probably gives one the creepiest performances of the film now I don't think she gives the best X-Men Villain performance because I think Brian Cox who plays William Striker in X2 X-Men United gave a much more scarier in downright nail biting performance as that character. But I do think she gives one of the most entertaining villain performances in an X-Men film. Now the character of Dr Reyes  Is really interesting because at first she starts off really nice because she really cares for the young mutants but but then you find out that she would just using them so she can euthanize them Like dogs because she viewed them at a threat and well the movie does a terrific job of making her very scary it just she doesn't hold a candle to Colonel Williams Striker from X2 because I feel like that villain well a lot more developed because you know when his wife found out that their son with a mutant she committed suicide by drilling her head open and she died like that and I feel like Striker was a lot more fun to hate. But Dr Reyes  she's just there the way I describe her She's essentially like Danny from Stranger Things tales from 85 as villain that's fun to hate but you don't really feel bad for her and you're not supposed to feel bad because she's a piece of shit and the way that she dies is really satisfying. But William Striker in X2 X-Men United is a lot better because they built him up here. It is still really satisfying. It's still fun to watch I get ripped apart by Demon Bear. But I think she is an ok villain. She's not a horrible villain like Black Mask but she's just there as a villain. The scenes with  Dr Reyes are really incredible and really entertaining whether it is the scene of her meaning Dani Moonstar for the first time in being overly nice to her and having her learn to make friends at this facility or the scene of her trying to euthanize her and kill the young mutants and it does lead to some really scary and some really nerve rocking moments in the film. The chemistry between her and Blu Hunt  is remarkable.

However the best thing about this movie is the directed by Josh Boone who really does a Stellar job of developing all these characters because my biggest problem with the directing in the newer X-Men films they didn't really develop any of the characters they tried to but they fail but I think this director did a lot better because all these mutants are suffering through loneliness and depression and the characters that he focus on are Dani Moonstar, Wolfsbean, Cannonball and Sunspot are really terrific choices because all them lost everything. Cannonball accidentally killed his father by using his powers. Wolfsbean had to watch her parents be burned by the church and get branded because they think that she is a witch and they accused her and her family of doing witchcraft. Dani Moonstar accidentally conjured up her spirit animal demon bear and it got her father killed and everything she was lonely and depressed and she never wanted to use her power again. Also Sunspot accidentally used his powers and burned his girlfriend alive. That's why he never wanted to use his power again and that's why he was lonely and depressed because he didn't have friends. I also really like how he takes this group of mutants who are all lonely. They are all depressed and they all had bad stuff happen to them and it really reminds me of Thunderbolts because that film also had the characters suffer through loneliness and depression, in particular Yelena and Bob. Now something else that really surprised me is the horror in this movie because he does not hold back when it comes to the creepiness and unlike other horror movies which are not scary they're just lame. But this movie did have some scary moments in particular when the smiling men come into play in the third act and they remove their mask and they start attacking the mutants. It is really scary and the CGI on them looks really amazing. Even the look of Demon Bear looks really scary.  So overall I think he did a terrific job directing this film.

So in conclusion i still really like this movie because of the storyline and the themes because the storyline revolving around Moonstar befriends all these mutants and trying to get out of the facility well bonding with all of them is incredible in the film handled it perfectly Now I will say though the storyline in X2 X-Men United is much better In terms of structure and more intense stuff. I think the storyline is much a lot better. But I will say it's not as messy as X-Men Apocalypse because that film has way more story problems than this one does. I also enjoyed the themes of the film, those being loneliness and depression because all these characters are lonely and depressed like Wolfsbane who had to watch her parents be burned in a church and be branded by the priest. Cannonball was also a character that suffered through loneliness and depression after he accidentally killed his father with his powers. Also Dani Moonstar was selfie through loneliness and depression because she accidentally killed her father with her spirit animal demon bear and she felt really guilty about it and she didn't have any friends. Also Sunspot was lonely and depressed and accidentally burned his girlfriend with his powers. Even Magik  suffered through loneliness and depression because he didn't have any friends. So I still think the film did a fantastic job with the themes of being lonely and depressed just like in Thunderbolts* Also the performances were really incredible because I enjoyed Charlie Heaton's performance as Cannonball. But the actor who stole the entire film is Anya Taylor- Joy as Magik because she gave one of the most powerful and one of the Incredible performances in the film. She looked like Magik from the comics and she even sounded like her because the Russian accent she puts on is perfect. Also the action sequences in this film were really rerrific especially that Final battle where The mutants are battle against the mutants and the smiling men and Demon bear that was really amazing. Now Dr Reyes  I think she is an okay villain she's not terrible and the movie does a good job of make you hater because he does all this bad stuff to these young mutants but she wasn't as memorable as the villain from X2 X-Men United that being Colonel Williams Striker played by Brian Cox who was a lot more scarier than Dr Reyes was in this film. But the scenes of her torch in the men's were entertained to watch and the way she died was very satisfying to see because again she with a vile piece of shit character But again she was Wasn't as memorable as other Marvel movie films  like Xu Wenwu from Shang Chi, Cassandra Nova from Deadpool and Wolverine, and Woman Striker from X2 X-Men United all these villains were a lot more memorable than the villain was in this movie. Now she's not as horrible as Black Mask from Birds to Prey but as a Marvel villain she's just there. Dr Reyes is just there because all the others that I mentioned were a lot more memorable. This is still in my top five favorite movies of 2020. I still think this film is up there with Ant-Man And The Wasp as one of the most underrated Marvel movies ever made. I think this film is up there with Deadpool 2 and one of my favorite X-Men films. I highly recommend you watch this film especially if you like X2 X-Men United with Hugh Jackman. I give this film a 10/10.
