Here is My Movie Review of The Shining/Why Is It My Favorite Movie Of All Time.
Now this is going to be a really different review because I am going to talk about the movie but I'm going to explain why it is one of my favorite films of all time.
Now something I really like about this film is that The storyline having it revolve around this guy named Jack Torrance who is this writer who is trying to write the story and he decided to take his family to the Overlooked hotel and it starts out okay but you find out that the hotel is haunted and there's something wrong with Jack he's going mentally insane and I love how the film does not waste any time Showing Jack's struggle Of being a writer he really wants to make this book Make a lot of money. But you can also see that he's having a lot of trouble with his marriage with his wife Wendy. How he can't stand her. He finds her annoying to the point that he's trying to kill his family because he's being possessed by the ghost that resigns in the hotel. I think the storyline is the best thing about this movie. It does change some stuff from the book for the most part. It does get it right. Now something that I really found interesting is that this film got a lot of praise from the author who wrote The Shining, Stephen King. He hated it because they changed so much from his original vision of the book because in the original book it deals with Jack being alcoholic. But in this film it focuses on him going crazy. They do show him drinking a few times in the film but he's just going crazy because of the ghost in the hotel. But as good as the story is for this film, the thing I love about this film are the performances of every single actor. They give really captivating and tremendous performances. But we of course have to talk about the Magnificent and devilishly entertaining performance from Jack Nicholson who Plays our main character Jacked Torrance and I don't think you can find anyone else who can play this really unstable and downright crazy psycho better than the Joker himself AKA Jack Nicholson because her is interesting bit of trivia is that they wanted to Other actors like Robert De Niro, Christopher Reeve, Harrison Ford, Robin Williams play the role and to be honest I don't think Jack Torrance would be as iconic as he is if you had Robert De Niro play him in the film. Now the character of Jack Torrance is a psycho because this is a guy who is annoyed with his family. He just wants to be left alone and right in his novel and when he snaps the movie does a magnificent job of showing Jack’s villain turn. Now there are a lot of really iconic moments with Jack Torrance of course I cannot forget the hairs Johnny Scene in the film Now this scene is really disturbing but the thing that kind makes it somewhat funny Is where Jack Torrance says Little pigs little pigs let me in Not by the hair of my change chin chin then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in and then he just hits the door with the ax trying to kill his wife Wendy and it's all thanks to Jack Nicholson's iconic and perfect performance. Something else that is really funny it occurs in the beginning where Jack and Wendy and Danny are in the car and they talk about the dollar party and jack is gay annoyed with his son and he says well the dollar party had to eat each other they had to resort to Them eating each other and he says to his wife he got it from the television. It is another really funny but really disturbing moment in the film. Shelly Duvall Also gives a really tremendous and emotional performance and the character of Wendy Torrance in the film. Now here's the interesting thing Shelly Duvall did not like working on the film because the director Stanley Kubrick abused her in the scene where her character Wendy is swaying the bat at Jack because Kubrick wanted to have the film be perfect. So you can see that Shelly was not very happy to work with Stanley Kubrick because of how strict he was because it took 127 takes just to get the scene right. Now Wendy Torrance is someone you do feel bad for because her family is falling apart because her husband Jack Twins is abusing her train her like garbage and trying to kill her and her son and she's worried that Jack's mental state is falling apart he's becoming more crazy and deranged to the point that he tries to kill her and their son Danny Torrance. One of my favorite moments with Wendy Torrance is where she had the baseball bat and she's telling her husband to like get away from her because she doesn't want her husband to kill her in the free scary moment because Get the way Jag Torrance is like psychologically abusing every by saying give me the band I'm not going to hurt you and If you let me finish my sentence I'm not going to hurt you Wendy I'm going to just bash your brain down bash them right the fuck in. But top of being scary it's sort of funny due to Jack Nicholson the line delivery because you Not supposed to laugh at Jack trying to kill his wife but the same time you are laughing because about subtle the joke of like he's saying I'm not going to hurt you I'm going to just kill you by bashing your fucking brains in. I also enjoyed Shelly Duvall and Jack Nicholson's chemistry throughout the film. It is the strongest aspect of the entire film because even though they're just acting it feels like they are husband and wife in real life even though they are not but that's how tremendous the film is with the two leads. Danny Lloyd give a tremendous and captivating performance as the character of Danny Torrance because he probably gives one of the most iconic child performances of all time. Now the character of Danny Torrance is really interesting because he had this ability called The Shining which is a thing in the steaming books where if you have this ability you can see in the future and he's very concerned about his dad Jack going crazy and trying to kill him and his mother. Now there are a lot of iconic moments with Danny Torrance Especially the scene where he is using his finger like a little friend and it's really creepy but it's kind of funny. But the scene that everyone remembers is the Red ROM moment where he keeps repeating his mother because he starts seeing the ghost in the hotel it's one of the Iconic but one of the most creepy moments of the entire film. Now of course there's other moments I really like another one involves Jack Torrance talking to his wife Wendy and he said you are distracting me maybe like explaining any other like being bothered while he's riding he likes to be left alone and yes it's disturbing but again due to Jack Nicholson's line delivery that's why it's a little funny and than the part where he says well I want you to get the fuck out. Also the cinematography is really amazing especially where you see Jack Torrance walking in the snow it does a really terrific job of showing off how cold it is outside the hotel because this film takes place in the winter. But the thing I love about this movie is easily the directing by Stanley Kubrick who directed so many iconic films like 2001 A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket with the Kingpin AKA Vincent D'Onofrio. This is probably his best directing Because he takes the book of The Shining it makes it accurate but also change of it because I feel do Glorious job of giving this story a better ending are they coming Jack Torrance freezing in the snow is a lot more better than whatever happened in the book which evolved like animal statues and I don't think that would translate well to the film so having Jack be frozen to death in the middle of the snow is a lot better. I also like how he develops the character of Jack Torrance He's dealing with the fact that he has to write this book to impress his boss but at the hotel he start to become more unstable and a lot more crazier to the point that you tried to murder the rest of his family and I think that's a little bit better than In the book where Jack Torrance was addicted to alcohol and well it worked in the book and did work for Doctor Sleep But I think having it be caused by him getting annoyed and trying to become a perfect writer in that causing his downfall due to being haunted and possessed by the Spirits in the hotel with a lot better. But overall I think he did a magnificent job directing this film. So in conclusion This is still one of my favorite films of all time. I love the performances, especially Jack Nicholson who stole the entire movie. You can tell that he was having a lot of fun playing this deranged writer who eventually snaps and tries to kill his whole family. But also like how even though this is a horror movie there are some moments that were really funny like the scene where Jack says to his wife you are distracting me or the iconic here's Johnny scene. Begin these and photography and the most disturbing moments in the film always worked especially that bloody elevator scene with the naked old lady in the bathtub. That scene is really iconic and really disturbing. Now the funniest thing about this movie is that it does have one thing in common with The Long Walk and that is The Joker is the main villain in both movies because this one Jack Nicholson is the villain and in The Walk Mark Hamill is the villain in that film so you get two Jokers as the villain in two separate Stephen King movies. I highly recommend you watch this film especially if you like The Long Walk with Mark Hamill. Then you won't be disappointed with this film. I give this film a 10/10.
