Here is My Movie Review of The Cider House Rules
So basically what happened you have this orphan named Homer Wells and he decides to get a job at the doctor but not really a doctor he is just pretending to be a doctor so he can help these kids get adopted from the orphanage so they can have families Then he meets this woman named Candy Kendall And her husband Lieutenant Wally Worthington and they decide to show Homer Willis his new family and they start to bond. But unfortunately Lieutenant Wally Worthington crashes his plane and he ends up being paralyzed in Candy Kendall is really sad so Homer Wells decides to comfort her to make her feel better. So it's up to Homer Wills to help Candy Kendrill feel better and to have all the orphans be adopted and that's basically what the story is for this movie. Now the storyline I have to say is very tragic and really interesting because it revolved around Homer Wells Pretending to be a doctor so he can care for the orphans and in concept it really works but it works better in execution. I think the film Executes this storyline perfectly.
The acting in this movie is terrific because it does have a really fantastic cast and a lot of these actors will go on to be in a lot more films.
However the absolute big standout of the entire film is Toby McGuire as Homer Wells because he gives the most powerful and emotionally gripping performance of the entire film. Now the character of Homer Wells Is incredible because you can see that he really cares about these orphans and really wants them to get homes in order to be in a family he also really cares about Candy Kendall and wants to make her feel better telling her everything is going to be okay her husband Lieutenant Wally Worthington is going to be okay. The scene where Homer Wells tells Candy Kendall That everything is going to be okay her husband Is going to be safe. Not only was it really sad but it makes sense because she thinks her husband Lieutenant Wally Worthington Is gone forever. It is probably one of the most heartbreaking moments of the entire film. The chemistry between him and Charlize Theron, Michael Caine. Paul Rudd, Erik Per Sullivan Is terrific.
Charlize Throne play Candy Kendrill In the film and her performance is probably one month emotional and one of the best performances in the film and she does a glorious job playing this character who it essentially a mess because she has to deal with her husband who is part of a war and he flies to the war and she is worried that he'll never come back. Now the character of Candy Kendrill Is brilliant because you really feel bad for her because she is worried that her husband Lieutenant Wally Worthington will never come back. But she also shows that she really cares about Homer Well because she starts to fall in love with him. The scene where She and Homer Wells Are walking along the beach discussing how much they really care about one another is not only really heartwarming but it just shows how much she really cared about him. It is probably the most beautiful scene of the entire film. The romance between her and Homer Wells Is the strongest aspect of the entire film. The chemistry between her and Toby McGuire is excellent.
Sir Michael Caine plays Dr Wilbur Larch in the film and his performance is excellent because he does such a magnificent job playing the very nice and humbled person who really cares about these orphans and wants them to get a good home with a loving family. Now the character of Dr Wilbert Larch Is remarkable because right from the start he really cared about these orphans. He enjoys reading stories to them, he enjoys spending his time with them and he wants them to get a good home with a loving family that will take them in. The scene where Dr Wilbur Larch is reading the orphans bedtime stories is not only a beautiful moment but it makes sense because you could tell that he really cares about these orphans and wants them to be happy at the orphanage. It is probably the sweetest moment of the entire film. The chemistry between him and Toby McGuire is brilliant.
But my favorite performance in the entire film is Paul Rudd as Lieutenant Wally Worthington who is showing that he, much like the rest of the characters, really cares about these children but he really cares about his wife Candy Kendrill because he wants to make her happy. Now the character of Lieutenant Wally Worthington is my favorite character because he is shown that he really cares about these kids but he really enjoys making his wife really happy. He is also a World War II pilot. The scene where Lieutenant Wally Worthington gives the kids candy is not only a really sweet moment but it makes sense because it shows how much he really cares about these kids and wants them to be happy. It is probably one of my favorite moments of the entire film. The relationship between him and Candy Kendrill Is the strongest aspect of the entire film. The chemistry between him and Toby McGuire is perfect.
Erik Per Sullivan plays Fuzzy Stone in the film And his performance is brilliant. He does such a terrific job of playing this character who just wants to be adopted and wants to have a happy and nice family to raise him. Now the character of Fuzzy Stone and they really tried a character because he has this condition where can't interact with the other kids so he has to stay in this plastic wrap and you really feel bad for him because well he really cares about the other kids and they like to have them around he just wishes that he can be adopted by a family who can love him. The scene where he and Homer Wells are discussing Halloween is not only a beautiful moment but it makes sense because it shows that Homer Wells Really cares about him. The chemistry between him and Toby McGuire is incredible.
However the best thing about this film is the directing by Lesse Hallstrom because what I love about his directing is that he does a brilliant job of developing all the characters because Homer Wells is this orphan who wants to become a doctor so he pretends to be a doctor so the kids at the orphanage can be adopted into families. Also Lieutenant Wally Worthington gets developed as a character because he is a World War II test pilot who really cares for his wife Candy and wants to make her happy and also really cares about the kids at the orphanage. I also like how he discusses the subject of addiction because it is a very difficult topic because people can get addicted to a lot of things like drugs or smoking or in this film's case ether which was a drug to put patients to sleep But we stopped doing that because it'll symbolize vaping. So I think it is really excellent of how he did that.
So in conclusion I still love the film, the storyline revolving around Homer Wells pretending to be a doctor to have these kids Be adopted and taken into a loving caring family. I also like how this film has so much heart and emotion because they're the one of really sad and emotional moments throughout the film wide the scene where Dr Wilbur Large dying in his room do him getting addicted to either is a very sad and try to moment in the film because he was such a loving and caring character to the kids in the film. Also the performances are all awesome. My favorite performance is Paul Rudd as Lieutenant Wally Worthington because I can tell he was having a lot of fun as this character. I think this is up there with Mute as one of my favorite Paul Rudd films. I highly recommend you watch the film especially if you like Pawn Sacrifice which also Stars Toby McGuire. I give this movie a 10/10.
