Here is My Villain Review of Sebastian Shaw
Now I'm going to explain the character of the bathroom Shaw who is the main villain in 2011's X-Men First Class and explain Why he has not accurate to his comic counterpart and explain why he had the potential to be a really great villain but in the end became an underwhelming villain.
Origin- Now Sebastian Shaw's origin in this film is completely wrong because in this one he is A Nazi who works at a concentration camp during the events of World War II and that's not really what happened in the comics because in the comics the back to Shaw had a tough childhood because his father Jacob Shaw told him to work at steam mail to supply money for their family and Sebastian was picked on by other students at a club which Constant to release his immune powers and later on in his life he got a scholarship at a university became really intelligent and he became rich enough to have it on evil criminal team known as the Hellfire Club but in this film he just randomly decides to make the Hellfire Club not because he is rich it's because he wants to use them to cause World War 3 and that's it so I think the film did a really bad job of explaining Sebastian Shaw's origin.
Character- Now much like in the his origin the character of Sebastian Shaw is a mess because in the comics he is very rich he is an aristocrat. He is also Industrious. He lives in the state of Massachusetts. But in this movie Sebastian Shaw is a Nazi scientist who worked in a concentration camp during the events of World War II. Then 18 years after World War II the back and Shaw emerged himself as the leader of the Hellfire Club So he can find CIA agent Maury McTagger so he can enlist his services to cause World War III and to be on the film Does not do a good job of developing Sebastian Shaw because aside from his involvement of the Hellfire Club stuff everything else is completely different from the source material.
Motivation- Now Sebastian Shaw´s motivation on paper It actually very interesting because he wants to break Magneto so he can have him use his mutant abilities and he want the cause World War III to kill off all of humanity and I Will admit the scene of him torturing Magneto It actually does work I think his motivation in terms of breaking Magneto was actually very fun to watch. But the World War 3 stuff I didn't really care for I get what the film was trying to do trying to be current with the Cold War with the Cuban Missile Crisis But I didn't really understand it Because it just was just huge generic of a villain motivation Because it feels like it's the same thing we have seen with other villains and comic book film. I think the film did a decent job of giving Sebastian Shaw a very interesting motivation like the stuff with him and Magneto was fun but the stuff with him wanting to cause World War 3 was just very brand and very flat.
Best Scenes- Now Sebastian Shaw has a couple interesting and memorable moments. But if I had to pick my favorite moment with Sebastian Shaw it'll be the scene where he forces Magneto to move the coin without even touching And if he doesn't it's about to show will kill his mother and not only what they very dark moment but it made sense because If Magneto didn't use his powers Sebastian Shaw will kill his mother right in front of him and that is exactly what happens and it's all thanks to Kevin Bacon's decent and entertaining performance.
Evil Deeds- Now Sebastian Shaw does a lot of evil things in this film like for example he killed Magneto's mother. He corrupted Magneto and made him into a mutant supremacist like himself. He tried to cause World War III. He killed Darwin in front of the other mutant students by taking one of havoc’s Energy Dics And putting it in his mouth which caused him to explode and kill them in the process. I think the film did a decent job of making Sebastian Shaw very cruel and despicable.
Conclusion- Sebastian Shaw as villain does have potential. I think the stuff that I do enjoy about him but there's a lot of stuff I either didn't really care for or just flat out did not like what they did to the character. I think the connection between him and Magneto was the best part of his character. Also his death the way Sebastian Shaw died in the film is one of the best X-Men movie villain deaths in the entire X-Men film series. But the problem is they get his origin wrong they make him into a Nazi he randomly decides to lead the Hellfire Club instead. He's not from Massachusetts. Instead he is in Germany. Which was really weird and didn't make a whole lot of sense. Now the scene where he threatens to kill Magneto's mother if he doesn't move the coin is a very powerful intense moment and it is all thanks to Kevin Bacon's decent and entertaining performance. But to be honest Kevin Bacon was miss cast as the character. To be honest I should have gone with Liev Schreiber because he looks like Sebastian Shaw in real life and that would have been a much better choice instead of Kevin Bacon. Also I think Live Schreiber would have given a far better and heck even tremendous performance as the character. But the problem is that Sebastian Shaw had a lot of potential to be a really great X-Men movie villain but due to everything they got wrong he became kind of a average to entertaining villain and the way I could summoned him up as a villain he basically this version interpretation of Ultron because both of them had good potential as villains but the films kind of messed him up a lot. As much as I like the stuff with the Sebastian Shaw and Magneto Is interesting but unfortunately I was really disappointed with this villain. I'm going to give Sebastian Shaw a 6/10.
