Here is My Movie Review of Brian and Charles
So basically what happens is that you have this guy named Brian and he is a lonely inventor who invents stuff in his house and one day he decides to build a robot and name that Charles. They start to develop the friendship there by spending time together. Then Brian fall in love with this woman named Hazel and she starts to learn about Charles and the three start to bond and that is basically what the story is for this movie.
The acting in this movie is tremendous. Much like I said with the acting in Sound of Metal. Much like that film this movie doesn't have many actors. But I think They give really great performances.
David Earl does a tremendous job as the character of Brian. What makes Brian such a remarkable character and that you understand why he wants to build this artificial intelligence is because he is really lonely. Also the bonding between him and Charles and Hazel is the strongest aspect of the film. Probably the funniest moment in the film is when Brian talks to the camera. The chemistry between him, Louise Brealey, and Chris Hayward is terrific.
Louise Brealey does an extraordinary job as the character of Hazel. What makes Hazel such a fun character Is that you could tell that she really likes Brian and the romance and the bonding that they have in the movie is really entertaining. Probably the best scenes In the movie where she and Brian and Charles are going on a walk together. the chemistry between her, David Earl, and Chris Hayward is tremendous.
But the absolute standout in the movie has to be Chris Hayward as Charles and you can tell that Chris Hayward is having fun in the role, you could tell that he is really entertaining in this movie. What makes Charles such a really spectacular character is that not only is he really funny. But also really sympathetic because he wanted to go out into the world and explore. Also Chris Hayward also provides the voice for Charles and the voice he puts on for Charles is really entertaining and really emotional at the same time. He really reminds me of Chappie from Chappie because they're both artificial intelligence The only difference being that Chappie is very raunchy and very violent. Well Charles is very family-friendly and really nice. The Bonnie between Charles and Brian is not only really funny but also really heartwarming at the same time. Also the CGI to bring Charles is really cool. Probably the best scene in the movie is at the end where he goes on a train to explore the world. The chemistry between him, Louise Brealey, and David Earl is really spectacular.
The directing by Jim Archer Is excellent. What I like about his directing is that he does a Awesome job of tackling the subject of loneliness because there are some people in the world that are lonely and they need friends. I think his directing Is right up there with Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert Because they did a terrific job in Everything Everywhere All at Once tacoing the subject of forgiveness.
So in conclusion I really enjoyed this movie. Also much like I said with the Sound of metal this really feels like an A24 film even though it's not but at the same time it also much like an A24 film has a really simple storyline. I think it is a really underrated 2022 film. I give this movie a 10/10.
