Here is My Movie Review of The Last Temptation of Christ

Here is My Movie Review of The Last Temptation of Christ

Now when it comes to this movie I always enjoyed it because of the way it depicted Jesus it depicted him really accurately and they cast a really tremendous actor to play the character and it does follow the story of Jesus how he was A carpenter and then he Fell in love with a woman named Mary He was blessed by God to be the world's Lord and savior except he didn't want to do it because he was conflicted by God's messages as well as his own thoughts AKA his temptations and then he was crucified and burned by the Romans and then he was resurrected again and fought the devil and got his heart And became our Lord and Savior and essentially became God.

Now the story of this film is perfect because it does Show the tragic origin of Jesus how he Well they Carpenter being mentored by Judas And fell in love with Mary and he was questioning by God's Temptations because he didn't want to die he wanted to stay alive and he had to battle his own personal demons as well as questioning his purpose in the world as well as being crucified by the Romans and got resurrected and fought the devil and became our Lord and savior and essentially became God. That is essentially what the story is and the story is perfect the way the film executes it is magnificent.

Now as much as I love the storyline the best thing in the film or the performances I dig all these actors Are tremendous especially our main lead Who plays Jesus in the film They all do a Stellar job even some of the actors who don't play a big role in the film they're still tremendous in this movie.

But the actor we really need to talk about is Willem Dafoe who plays Jesus Christ in this movie because he is downright perfect as Jesus he looks like him he does a great job of sounding soft-spoken as well as the way he questions Jesus is beliefs throughout the film And this just proves how brilliant Willem Dafoe is as an actor because he has given some tremendous performances like the Green Goblin in the MCU Gill in Finding Nemo. Nemo in Inside, Even his minor role in Asteroid City. Even in an awful movie like Death Note 2017 he was the best part of that movie as the character of Ryuk. That's how incredible Willem Dafoe is as an actor. But out of all the performances this one is probably his best performance he has ever given outside of the MCU and in his career the way he emotes as Jesus Christ the way he breaks down as this character is incredible and to be like this is probably my In my top three favorite Willem Dafoe performances. That's how tremendous he is in this film. Now moving past Willem Dafoe's performance let's talk about the character Jesus Christ himself who is completely accurate to how he is in real life because he was this Carpenter who was mentored by Judas he fell in love with Mary he was the Son of God and he was questioning his beliefs and what he can do for Humanity he was crucified and burned by the Romans and then he was resurrected to become God and rule over heaven and watched over humanity and decided if People were worthy enough to go to heaven. Now there are so many tremendous moments with Jesus Christ whether it is his introduction scene of him building crosses at the Carpenter or him talking to Mary about how much he cares about her or even the scene where he questions the people if they are pardon for their sins and if they should Act all evil or listen to God. Or even my favorite moment in the film is where he's in the deather and he breaks down crying question his face and how he does it want to die he wants to stay on Earth and that scene alone just shows how powerful  and terrific Willem Dafoe´s performance is and I know I keep talking about the performance but it's true that's how perfect Willem Dafoe was cast as Jesus. Also all those moments do lead to some really powerful and some really dark and disturbing moments in the film because this all happened to Jesus in real life. The chemistry between him and Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey, Robertson Blossom Is terrific.

Now let's talk about Harvey Keitel who is a tremendous actor. He has given so many tremendous performances and films like Taxi Driver, The Irishman, Inglorious Bastards. But in this film he does a stellar job as Judas he gives such a raw and such a captivating performance to the point that you don't really see Harvey Keitel on screen, you actually see the real life Judas who was mentoring Jesus when they were alive. That's how perfect Harvey Keitel was in this film. Now the character of Judas is incredibly accurate to how he was in real life because Judas Was essentially Jesus's mentor By having him Leave Earth by being crucified but as well as Finding his own face and he does give Jesus this tough love in the film he's pretty strict but he does deeply care about him. Now the scenes with Judas are incredible especially in the beginning where he tells him not to make any more crosses and follow God's footsteps or him walking with Jesus throughout Rome telling him that he'll eventually have to leave Earth. In fact my favorite scene of the film is where he says his final goodbyes to Jesus as Jesus is being crucified and it was a sadness and one of the most heart-wrenching moments in the film because it happened in real life. Also both him and Willem Dafoe play off each other perfectly; they have such magnificent chemistry throughout the film.

Barbara Hershey plays Mary in the film and she does a stellar job in this film because she just gives so much heart and emotion to this character. She also voices the snake in this movie and she also does an excellent job as that character as well. Now the character of Mary is accurate to how she was in real life. She was the girlfriend of Jesus and she got mistreated by the people in Rome because she was Jewish. The scenes with Mary are incredible like when she is talking to Jesus and she doesn't want him to look at her because she can't really trust him because she is worried of how he would treat her. Also the scene where the Romans are throwing rocks at her It is really brutal moment because they even point out that she is a Jew and they say it's her fault that everything is going to shit Or her talking to Jesus as the snake saying I feel really bad for you and she talks about just believe What you believe in and follow your own path to find your fate. It does lend to some really brutal and some really heart-wrenching but some really important moments in the film. Also the romance between her and Jesus is the strongest aspect of the film and both her and Willem Dafoe play off each other perfectly.

Robertson Blossom plays Aged Master In the filming even though he doesn't play a big role in the film he's still done a glorious job as the character. Now the character of the aged Master is really interesting because he is accurate to how he was in real life, how he always mentored Jesus kind of like Judith did as well how he wanted him to go on the right path and find his own fate. Now the scene with the aged Master are really Emotional and really Incredible Especially the scene where he tells me that defined his own path Or him and Jesus Saying their final goodbyes it does lead to some really powerful and some really Heart-Wrenching moments throughout the film and both him and Willem Dafoe they play off each other perfectly.

However the thing I really want to talk about is the directing by Martin Scarcese Now this guy is a very town to director because he has directed a lot of terrific movies like Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Killers of The Flower Moon, Shutter Island, The Departed, The King of Comedy, and Hugo. Now ask for this film much like his other films I think he did a Stellar job of directing this film in fact I did this is my third favorite movie that he has directed because why I love about his directing is that he does a magnificent job of depicting Jesus Christ how he went from Carpenter To falling in love with Mary and try to find his own fath to being crucified By the Romans And being burned to death and then being resurrected and I think it is still a job of the way he developed Jesus as a person by making him really accurate to how he was in real life. The same thing goes to Judas who was Jesus's mentor and friend and told him to find his own path of God and decide if he should stay on Earth or be crucified And die and come back. I still think he did a glorious job of developing the characters. I also like how he disgusted the subject of finding your religious face because some people have trouble finding face and religion can be a very touchy  subject matter some people don't want to talk about it because they're closed off while some people are very open to talk about it And I think the way Martin Scorsese was able to talk about is incredible. So overall I think he did a magnificent job of directing this film.

So in conclusion I still really love this movie because of the way it tells the story of Jesus Christ of how he became our Lord and savior and how it showed the death and Resurrection of him. As well as his Friendship with Judas and his romance with wife Mary. And also did a glorious job of showing how brutal the Romans were to Jesus. That's how they mistreated him and how they want him to be crucified and want him to be burned for his sins. Also the stuff about Jesus trying to find his faith In God and trying to find his purpose in the world was incredible. But the acting is the best part of the film because Willem Dafoe Does they incredible and really tremendous job playing Jesus Christ he's able to give so much tragedy and emotion to the character and they are so many incredible moments with Jesus Christ Like him and the other breaking down crying and trying to figure out what he wants to do he doesn't know if he should stay on Earth or be crucified and killed and go to heaven and be resurrected and become God. Or the scene of him telling the people of Rome Are they partying for their sins was also a really powerful and terrific moment in the film and this is again one of my favorite performances from Willem Dafoe that he is a really perfect and incredible actor. In fact he's in my top 10 favorite actors of all time. Also Harvey Keitel as Judas was Incredible because you barely see heart attack hell on screen you know we see the real life Judas. That's how strong Harvey Keitel's performance was in the film. Also the back and forth between him and Jesus was incredible how they treat each other like friends but also they have different ideologies of how religion does work and I thought that was really amazing and they had a really great idea to integrate into these characters and both him and Willem Dafoe play off each other terrifically. Also Barbara Hershey  gives a really powerful and really emotional performance as Mary and the romance between her and Jesus is incredible and they did get her right because again this was a real person that existed when Jesus was around and both her and Willem Dafoe and they play off each other magnificently. I think this film is up there with The Departed as one of my favorite  Martin Scorsese films. I highly recommend you watch the film especially if you like really powerful and emotional films like first reformed with Ethan Hawke then I'm sure you're going to like this film as well. I give this film a 10/10.
