Here is My Movie Review of Logan

Here is My Movie Review of Logan

Now When it comes to this film this one has always been one of the saddest Comic book films I have ever seen because we are essentially watching a beloved character slowly falling apart that being Wolverine. Now out of all the X-Men films. This one is the best one out of all of them right up there with X2 X-Men United which is my favorite X-Men film of all time. This is also one of the best films of 2017.

Now the storyline in this film is probably the saddest storyline out of any X-Men film because it said the round Logan / Wolverine he is getting old he is not healing as well as he used to and he has to work as a limo driver to pay for Charles Xavier/ Professor X's medication to keep his powers under control and one day he finds this girl named Laura that Charles Xavier Tells Wolverine that they have to protect and at first he doesn't want to but. After he finds out that Donald Pierce want to kidnap Laura and torture and killer Logan / Wolverine decides to protect Laura And prevent anything bad happened to her. But then he decides to send out this clone called X-24 which is a younger Wolverine. So it's up to Wolverine and Professor X to protect Laura from X-24 and that's basically what the story is for this film. I have to say the storyline of this movie is the best storyline out of all the X-Men movies because it shows Wolverine's vulnerable side because he is slowly losing his ability to heal As well as his tragic side of him losing someone he cared about.

Now the performances in this movie are incredible. In fact I would say that the acting is right up there with the acting X2 X-Men United as one of the best acted comic book films of all time. Especially because it marks the last time that 2 certain actors would play their iconic characters.

However the absolute big standout of this entire film is Hugh Jackman who probably gives one of his best performances as Logan / Wolverine because for this being his final performance in the main X-Men timeline he really did not disappoint. He is one of the most captivating and tragic performances as this character. To be honest I think this performance is right up there with  Robert Day Jr.'s performance as Iron Man in Avengers Endgame is one of the most tragic comic book film performances. Now the character of Logan /Wolverine has changed a lot. Now in the first X-Men movie he was tough but he did smile and crack a couple jokes. But in this film he is broken because he drinks a lot, He yells a lot more and that's because he's close to dying he's unable to heal and he has to protect Laura from evil mercenaries even though he really doesn't want to because he doesn't feel like looking after her because he does not think that it is his responsibility to take care of another mutant. The scenes with Logan / Wolverine are some of the most depressing and some of  the most brutal moments you'll ever see in an X-Men film whether it is the scene of him Seeing Charles Xavier dying in front of him or him fighting The younger clone of him that is X-24. It doesn't lead to some really sad and some really soul crushing moments in the film. Now Hugh Jackman also plays the younger Wolverine clone that is X-24 and he does a tremendous job as that character as well. Now X-24 as a character is really scary because he will stop at nothing to kill Logan/Wolverine and Charles Xavier/Professor X, and Laura. The scenes with X-24 are probably some of the most brutal moments of the entire film whether it's him fighting Logan / Wolverine to the death or him brutally stabbing Charles Xavier / Professor X. It does lead to some really heavy and some really horrifying moments in the film. The chemistry between him and Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook, and Richard E Grant is terrific.

Now for this being Patrick Stewart's final performance as Charles Xavier/ Professor X In the main X-Men timeline he really delivered a really powerful and tragic performance as this character. Now the character of Charles Xavier / Professor X has changed a lot because in the first X-Men film he was younger he was a lot more happier he was able to control his telepathic abilities. But in this film he is old, he can't really control his powers very well, he's broken down and he is depressed and he needs Logan/Wolverine to take care of him and prevent him from dying. The scenes with Charles Xavier / Professor X are some of the most depressing moments in this film whether it's him almost hurting himself by using his telepathic abilities or him dying in front of Logan telling him about the boat he wanted to go on with Logan / Wolverine. It does lead to some really heartbreaking, some really heavy moments throughout the film. Now if there's one problem I do have with Xavier/Professor X in this film it is that scene where he talks about Taco Bell and I understand why they have him say in the film because he is going crazy because he's living his mermaids but it's just out of character for Charles Xavier to crack jokes because he's not a jokester. But other than that I think Charles Xavier / Professor X is perfectly handled in this film. The chemistry between him and Hugh Jackman is tremendous.

Dafne Keen probably gives her best performance as Laura / X-23 in this film because she gives one powerful and emotional performance of the entire film. Now the character of Laura / X-23 Is probably one the most tragic characters of the entire film because this is a girl who was the experimented on by Dr Rice and lost her mother and she had to survive with Logan / Wolverine and child Xavier / Professorax in order to survive against Donald Pierce and X-24. Now the scenes with Laura/X-23 are probably some of the most powerful and the most heart-wrenching moments of the entire film whether it is her watching Charles Xavier / Professor X dying in front of her. Or Staying her final goodbyes to Logan/Wolverine because the Wolverine clone AKA X-24 brutally impaled him on a branch which killed him and she breaks down crying. It does lead to some of the most depressing moments of the entire film. Now there is one moment in this film that is actually really funny and that is the scene where Laura/X-23 and the young mutants are shaving Logan Wolverine's beard and he looks in the mirror and he says not funny. Now it makes the thing funny. It is the way Hugh Jackman says the line of dialogue. The chemistry between her and Hugh Jackman is brilliant because you actually  buy them as a real father and daughter. That's how real their chemistry was in this film.

Boyd Holbrook plays Donald Pierce in the film and his performance was decent. But I think he was miss cast. I think Jude Law should have played the character because in the comics Donald Pierce is British. But in this film they gave him a southern accent which was really weird. I understand why because this film is about to be a western drama film. To be honest I think the performance does work for this type of film. Now Donald Pierce as a character is  a weak villain. I don't think he's bad. I think he does work for the film that he is in because the film The Great job of make you hate him for all the bad stuff he does and you really want this asshole to die and he does the young mutants give their power more than a moderate him. And the whirlwind I don't think he is as good as other X-Men villains like Colonel Williams Striker from X2 X-Men United or even Cassandra Nova from Deadpool and Wolverine. I think those two villains are a lot stronger and a lot more better written. The themes with Donald Pierce are really entertaining to watch whether it is the scene of him telling Logan / Wolverine that he wants the girl or him talking to Dr Rice how they tortured and experimented on these kids to make them mutants. It does lead to some really dark and really disturbing scenes in the film. Also the Rivalry between him and Wolverine is pretty good, I think the rivalry between him and Colonel William Striker from next to X-Men United is a lot stronger because Colonel William Striker is better than The chemistry between him and Hugh Jackman is incredible. I think they have terrific  chemistry throughout the film.

Now Richard E Grant plays Dr.  Rice and even though he doesn't play a big role in the film I think for what he does have he did a terrific job as this character because he delivers a cold and really calculating and I think he gives a better performance than Boyd Holbrook does in the film. Now Dr Rice at the character it actually far more interesting than Donald Pierce is in this film to the point that I wish Dr Rice was the  main villain in this film because he is a lot more interesting of a character because he wants revenge on Logan/Wolverine for the death of his father And he wants to have Laura / x23 so he can torture and experiment on her even more to make her into the monster that he wants her to become. The scenes with Dr Rice are probably some of the most disturbing moments in the film whether it is him torturing Caliban or him attacking Logan and his team it does lead to some really dark and nail biting moments throughout the film. Also Dr Rice is a villain that you just loved to hate. You just want a disgusting piece of shit to die and Logan / Wolverine does just that he killed him by shooting him in the head. Fun fact 4 years after this film came out Richard E Grant would go on to play classic Loki in Loki seaone 1. The chemistry between him and Hugh Jackman is incredible.

However the best thing about this movie is the beautiful and perfect directing by James Mangold because what I love about his directing it like he does a magnificent job of showing how depressed and broken these characters are in particularly with wolverine and Professor X because these two characters actually carried the X-Men films together and for this being a century that file moments together It is really sad and really brutal to watch But yet he makes these characters come off as real people because and realize there are people who can be meant to eat fragile and broken and go as far as being depressed and lonely. I also like how you managed to make this a western drama film instead of an action film because even though There is action in the film. This film is mostly a drama film about characters breaking apart and being depressed and trying to cope with it. I think it is really incredible how he did that. So I think he did a tremendous job with directing the film and this is probably his best directed film he has ever done.

So in conclusion I still really love this film because it shows the fractured and broken side of the iconic characters that being Wolverine and Professor X because both of them are close to dying Logan can't really heal himself. Professor X can't really control his telepathic abilities that well like he used to when he was younger. I don't like the storyline revolving around Wolverine and Professor X having to protect Laura from Donald Pierce and his team. This film easily has the best storyline out of all the X-Men films. Although the performances are magnificent in particular Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart steal the entire show at the characters and for this being their final time add these characters in the main X-Men timeline they definitely did not disappoint. They give really emotional and broken performances as these characters. Also Dafne Keen give they really powerful and emotional performance as Laura/X-23. Also Richard E Grant does a terrific job as Dr Rice. To the point that I wish he was the main villain in the film because he is a lot more interesting than Donald Pierce. Now as for problems I do have. I do think Donald Pierce is a weak villain and the Taco Bell joke was not funny. But other than that. I still think this is a really powerful and really amazing X-Men film. This is definitely in my top three favorite films of 2017. I highly recommend you watch the film especially if you like really powerful and emotional films like Thunderbolts* with Lewis Pullman. I'm sure you will not be disappointed with this film. I give this film a 10/10.
