Here is My Movie Review Of Fantastic 4 First Steps
Now when this film was announced I wasn't that guy for it because the trailers just didn't really interest me because it just felt like a really boring comic book film and when it was announced that the Silver Surfer was going to be a female that was the thing that I really did not like so I went to go see this film and let me tell you this is probably the best Fantastic 4 film out of all of them. Also this is probably one of the best films of 2025.
So basically what happens is that you have the Fantastic Four they have been protecting Earth for 3 years and Sue Storm/Invisible Woman Is pregnant with her and read Richard / Mr Fantastic´s baby and everything seems to be going fine until they see this mysterious figure known as Shalla-Bal/The Silver Surfer who tells the Fantastic Four that Galactus wants to see them and when they do meet him Galactus says that he wants Reed Richard and Sue Storm's baby in Exchange for the safety of Earth but they refuse so Galactus makes it his mission kidnap Franklin Richards and essentially tried to kill him so Earth would be safe and up to the Fantastic Four to take down Galactus and protect Franklin Richards and that's basically what the story is for this film. I have to say out of all the Fantastic Four Films this one probably had the best storyline because it actually has higher stakes even though the early 2000s Fantastic Four films are really fun and really entertaining. This one actually did something that those films didn't get right, that being Galactus.
The acting in this movie is probably the best acting out of all of the Fantastic Four films because these ones feel a little bit more accurate to the comics.
Now when are the announced that Pedro Pascal was going to play raid Richards / Mr Fantastic i was really suspicious because he was already in a comic book film that being Wonder Woman 194 where he played the villain Maxwell Lord and I thought he was really fun and really entertaining in that film. But here I thought he was miscast because I think someone like John Krasinski would make a lot more sense. But I have to say after watching the film he actually did a glorious job as the character because you get to tell that Pascal is having the time of his life playing this character. Now the character of Reed Richards / Mr Fantastic It's really accurate to the comics because this one he goes really far into his studies like he kind of get himself lost in own world like in the comics and he is showing that he really cares about his wife Sue Storm/ Invisible Woman and he also wants to protect his and Sue's baby Franklin Richards. The scenes Read Richards / Mr. Fantastic Whether it is him meaning Galactus for the first time or him trying to prevent Franklin Richards from being killed by Galactus does lead to some really heart pounding and some really intense stuff in the film. The chemistry between him and Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson is fantastic.
Now when it was announced that Vanessa Kirby was going to play Sue storm / the Invisible Woman I was really mixed on that because the only film that i have seen her in was Napoleon and I thought she was just average in that film. But in this film she was terrific as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and this is probably Vanessa Kirby's best performance she ever gave in her career as an actress. Now the character of Sue Storm / invisible woman is really accurate to her comic counterpart because she is going to be really smart and she does eventually have a kid named Franklin Richards and in this film she's trying that she's really protective over her team especially her baby so I think the film the terrific job adapting her in this film. The scenes with Sue Storm/Invisible Woman are really remarkable whether it is the fiend where she have to give birth in our space or the scene where she is trying to fight off Galactus with her fourth bill Powers does lead to some really intense and Nail biting moments throughout the film. The chemistry between her and Pedro Pascal is amazing.
Now the actor that I was looking forward to seeing in this movie was actually Joseph Quinn who played Eddie Munson and Stranger Things season 4 and he was fun to watch in A Quiet Place Day 1. So how was he as Johnny Storm / The Human Torch? Well I have to say I thought he was really entertaining to watch because you can tell that he is having a lot of fun with this character. But I will say though I think Chris Evans did a far far better job of playing the character. But I will say that he was a lot better than the one played by Michael B Jordan from Fantastic Four 2015 because that one didn't really have a personality. Well Joseph Quinn does give the character personality. Now the character of Johnny Storm/Human torch is actually really accurate to the comics because he is the one that cracks a lot of jokes. He's also a ladies man. I will say I still prefer The Human Torch from the early 2000s Fantastic Four films because that one was a lot more funnier The scenes with Johnny Storm/Human Torch Are really fun and really magnificent weather it is the scene of him attempting to sacrifice himself to take down Galactus or him Trying to flirt with Shalla-Bal/The Silver Surfer powerful and some really funny moments throughout the film. The chemistry between him and Pedro Pascal is incredible.
Now when it was announced that Ebon Moss was going to voice Ben Grimm/The thing I was really curious about how that would go because the only film I saw Ebon Moss In was Tesla and he was really entertaining in that film. So how was he as Ben Grimm/ The Thing? Well he was actually really remarkable and the character. Now I will say though I think Michael Checklist was way better as The Thing in the early 2000s Fantastic 4 Films because I think he had the better voice well the voice that Ebon Moss puts on for The Thing it It was okay I will say it a little soft because The Thing's voice supposed to be like him smoke a cigar That's why he has that gravelly rough voice to him. Now the character of Ben Graham / The Thing is really interesting because he still cares about his team like the early 2000s Fantastic Four films. He still kind of finds the human torch annoying. But I feel like they didn't do the tragic part of this character right because and the only 2000s Fantastic Four Understand the tragic character because he viewed himself as a monster here he doesn't even freak out that he is made out of rocks he can't go with it. Now I will say that the beard and the CGI did not look as horrible as it looked in the trailer to be honest pretty good for the most part your eyes do get used to the fact that the thing had the beard. The scenes Ben Graham / The Thing I'm really interesting weather it is the scene of him interacting with H.E.R.B.I.E or Him and the rest of the Fantastic 4 trying to do prevent Galactus from stealing Franklin Richards because it does lead to some really powerful in some really chilling moments throughout the film. The chemistry between him and Pedro Pascal is glorious.
Paul Walter Hauser plays /The Mole Man in this film and his performance was really fun and entertaining because you can just tell that he is having a lot of fun as this character. Now Harvey Elder/Mole Man as the character is really interesting because in this film he is accurate. He is the Fantastic 4's first villain. Now he doesn't play a big role in the film but Harvey Elder/Mole Man is more of an anti-hero because he does have a heart and wants to help the Fantastic Four take down Galactus and save the world. The scenes with Harvey Elder / the moment are really fun and really entertaining whether it's him trying to protect the Citizens from the arrival of Galactus or him getting annoyed by The Human Torch calling him the Mole Man lead to some really awesome and really funny moments in the film. The chemistry between him and Pendle Pascal is tremendous.
Now let's talk about the thing I was not looking forward to and that was Shalla-Bal/The Silver Surfer because I thought it was a really dumb idea to gender swap Silver Surfer into a female. But I watched the film and I didn't really mind this change. Now i will say though Lawrence Fishburne is a far far better version of the Silver Surfer because he does have a better voice he was a lot more comic book accurate. But I have to say Julia Garner was not as bad as she was in the trailer. In fact she gave a far better performance in the actual film than she did in the actual trailer because she actually did that pretty decent job of voicing the Silver Surfer. Now Lawrence Fishburne still has a way better voice for the Silver Surfer. Also the CGI for the Silver Surfer didn't look as bad as it was in the trailer that being said however I still think the CGI was a lot better in 2007's Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer. But I will say that the CGI for the Silver Surfer in this film looks a lot more convincing than the CGI for the Skurolls because the CGI on them looked really bad. Now the character of Shalla-Bal/The Silver Surfer It's actually really interesting because you really feel bad for her because you find out that she didn't want to be Galactus's servant but he was forced to because he threatened to eat her planet and kill her Daughter so you understand why she had to go with Galactus to protect her family And she does have a change of heart when she fight back against Galactus and save the world. The scenes with Shalla-Bal/The Silver Surfer are really fun and entertaining whether it is the scene of her pushing Galactus through the portal or her meeting the Fantastic Four for the first time it does lead to some really fun and entertaining moments throughout the film. But I will say I think Silver Surfer from the 2007 Fantasy 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer had a better redemption arc than the one in the film by The Her Redemption Arc and was done pretty well for the most part. Fun fact actors like Keanu Reeves, Cillain Murphy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zachary Quinto, Matt Smith, Riz Ahmed, Gary Sinise, Timothy Olyphant, Djimon Hounsou, Le Keith Stanfield were all Considered to voice Silver Surfer. The chemistry between her and Pedro Pascal is fantastic.
Now let's talk about the thing i was looking forward to the most and that was Galactus now it comes to Galactus in live action the only time we seen him was in the 2007 film fantastic Four rise of the Silver Surfer and that one was at the giant fart Cloud it didn't really have it a personality. But luckily in this one he is like comics and Ralph Ineson voices Galactus in the film and he is the absolute big standout of the entire film like he just give the most terrifying and chilling performance in the entire film because his intimidating vocal performance makes the character a lot more scarier and a lot more entertaining. Now the character of Galactus is perfect he is exactly how he is in the comics he looks for plants to devour and absorb the energy of the planets to prevent him from being more hungry and here they really large presence throughout this entire filming is motivations are prey disturbing because he want to come to Earth and devour it but the Fantastic Four don't want him to do that so he makes a deal as if they give Franklin Richards AKA Sue and Reed Richard´s son so he won't come to Earth but they refused and he showed up anyway to try and kill them. The scene with Galactus are probably some of the scariest moments in the MCU whether it is him just arriving on Earth and destroying everything he sees or the scene where he meets the Fantastic Four and tells them that he wants the baby because if he doesn't he will come to Earth and kill everyone. It does lead to some really scary and some really horrifying moments in the film. Also the voice that Ralph Ineson puts on is really creepy and really disturbing but it works perfectly with the character. I think Galactus is up there with The Void from Thunderbolts* and what the best villains of 2025. The Rivalry between him and the Fantastic 4 is really accurate to the comics because he has fought them multiple times ever since he appeared in comics. Fun fact actors like Ben Affleck, Antonio Banderas, Keanu Reeves, Lawrence Fishburne, Vin Diesel, Michael Fassbender, John Malkovich, Andy Serkis, Brian Cranston, David Morrissey, Jeff Bridges, Idris Elba, Liam Neeson, James Earl Jones, Mark Strong, Mark Hamill, Mads Mikkelsen, Stephen Lang, Javier Bardem were All considered to voice Galactus. The chemistry between him and Pedro Pascal is exhilarating.
However the best thing about this film is the dredge of Mike Shackman because this is the same director who directed WondaVision and I'd thought he did a glorious job directing that show. So he directs this film and I have to say he does a magnificent job directing this film because he essentially gets everything about the Fantastic Four right for the most part I will say I do wish he made the things voice a lot more gravely and I wish that jointstorm had a lot more funny moments but other than that he did a terrific job developing both of the character as well in the entire Fantastic Four add a whole because the previous Fantastic Four Films they Didn't really get the team right they got some of it right and nearly 2000s films they got wrong in the 2015 film. But I have to say he was definitely right with this film. You know Reed Sue, they are a couple just like in the original Comics they have a kid named Franklin Richards. He also got Galactus right because he actually gave him a personality, gave him a really awesome And scary voice and a really interesting motivation unlike the 2007 movie where I was just a dust cloud with no personality. Something else I like about his directing the message of family that is the biggest theme in this film is family and teamwork and he got that perfectly. So overall I think he did a glorious job directing this film.
So in conclusion I was really surprised by this movie because I thought this movie was going to be really bad. The trailers weren't that interesting and I thought that this film would be one of the worst films of 2025. But to my surprise I end up loving this film because this movie fixed most of the problems I had with most of the Fantastic Four films. Which is why they change stuff because they strained too far from the comics. Now that the early 2000s ones got some stuff right like Silver Surfer the things personality and the human torch’s personality but it didn't get right doctor Doom or Galactus. Well this phone gets most of it right I will say The Thing's voice is a little soft, it needs to be more gravity and I did wish Johnny Storm/The Human Torch had a little bit more funny jokes in the film. But other than that I thought the characters were really fun and really entertaining. I also think the performances were amazing particularly from Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. Also I did think that Julia Garner did a pretty awesome job of voicing Silver Surfer. Now yes Lawrence Fishburne is still the best actor who has voiced Silver Surfer in live action. But this interpretation of Silver Surfer was actually really interesting because you feel bad for her because Galactus was using her so that is why she turns on him but up until that point I think she was a really fun secondary villain. Also I think Galactus is up there with The High Evolutionary as one of the best villains of the 2020s. I highly recommend you go see this film in Theaters especially if you enjoy Superman with Nathan Fillion and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I give this film a 10/10.
