Here is My Movie Review of First Reformed

So basically what happens is that you have this guy named Pastor Ernst Troller and he runs this church named First Reformed and he writes in this journal about his religious life. But unfortunately  Pastor Ernst Troller It's really thick so he tries to deal with job while fighting off his disease. Then he meets Mary Mebsana Who is pregnant  and tells him about her husband Michael Mebsana  has been to jail in Canada and has been released.  But he doesn't want Mary Mebsana  to have the baby. So Pastor Ernst Troller  decides to talk to Michael Mebsana about how he will deal with the fact of bringing a new baby into the world. But unfortunately Michael  Mebsana Has committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a gun in the snow. So it is up to Pastor Ernst Troller help Mary Mebsana  cope With the lost of her husband Michael Mebsana Well trying to run the church and trying to battle his sickness. That is basically what the story is for this movie. 

The acting in this movie is fantastic Because all the actors are doing a Flawless job as their characters. Also this movie is probably up there with the farewell add one of the best acted A24 films Because both movies have very Powerful and emotional leading performances in both of their actors.

However the absolute big standout of the entire film is Ethan Hawke as Pastor Ernst Troller. What makes Pastor Ernst Troller such a remarkable character is that he really wants to help Mary Mensana cope with the loss of her husband Michael Mesana while trying to battle his sickness while trying to run  church First Reform. Probably the best moment with  Pastor Ernst Troller is when he gives a speech about Michael Mebsana how he cared about this world. Not only was it really emotional but it made sense because they had to say goodbye to Mary Mensana Because if he commits suicide by shooting himself in the head. Probably the most heartbreaking thing of the entire film. This probably Ethan Hawke's second best performance he had ever given the best performance he had ever given was the Grabber from The Black Phone. The chemistry between him and  Amanda Seyfried, Phillip Ettinger,  and Cedric the Entertainer, Is terrific. 

Phillip Ettinger plays Michael Mebsana In the film. I have to say he still does an amazing job as the character. Now Michael Mebsana Is not in the film a whole lot but for what he does have he is a real interesting character because he doesn't want his wife Mary Mensana To have the baby. Probably the best moment with Michael Mebsana  is when he and Pastor Ernst Troller are discussing if God would be ready for another human being to live on planet Earth and not only was it really emotional but it makes sense because He doesn't think the world is ready to have another earthling on the planet. It is probably the most powerful moment in the films. The chemistry between him and Ethan Hawke is awesome. 

Cedric the Entertainer plays Reverend Joel Jeffers in the films. I have to say he still does a Marvelous job job as the character. What makes Reverend Joel Jeffers such an Incredible is that you can tell that he really cares about Pastor Ernst Troller and wants him to get better.  Probably the best moment with Reverend Joel Jeffers is When he is questioning Pastor Ernst Troller about his religious choices because he said that he's been thinking that God can help solve every problem and he tell him that he has to face reality. Not only was it really shocking but it made sense because he can't rely on God all the time to solve all his problems he has to learn how to solve them himself. It is probably the strongest moment in the film. The chemistry between him and Ethan Hawke is Spectacular. 

Amanda Seyfried plays Mary Mensana  In the film. I have to say she still does an outstanding job as the character. What makes Mary Mensana Such a tragic and sympathetic character is that you really feel bad for her because she has to cope with the loss of her husband Michael Mebsana Who has tragically died by killing himself. Probably the best moment with Mary Mensana is after the funeral  where she and Pastor Ernst Troller are discussing her husband about how much he cares about the earth. Not only was it really sad but it made sense because she really loved him. It is Probably the most depressing moment in the entire film. The chemistry between her and Ethan Hawke is astounding. 

The directing by Paul Schrader Is incredible because what I like his directing and that he does a great job of discussing religious beliefs and if God can really solve all your problems because some people actually believe that God can solve all their problems but in reality God can't really fix all of your problems. But a good majority of the problems you have to fix on your own. I still think it is really astounding of how he did that. 

So in conclusion I still really enjoyed this movie. I think this is still in my top five favorite A24 films. I still think the religious stuff in the film works extremely well and I like the moral that If God can´t really solve everyone's problems because that's the debate a lot of people have but in reality you are the one that has to solve all of your problems. I still think the film handles that lesson very well. This is probably in my top 10 best movies of 2018. This is still in my top 5 Favorite A24 films. I still think more people should watch this film especially if you like Really powerful and emotional films like Lean on Pete which is also  an A24 film and stars Steve Buscemi. I give this movie a 10/10.
