Here is my movie review of X-Men.
so basically what the plot is you have Logan doing a cage much. then after that he meets Rogue, Scott Summers/Cyclops, Ororo Munroe/Storm,Charles Xavier/Professor X so they all must team up to take down Magneto and the Brotherhood of evil mutants. That is basically what the story is for this movie.
The acting in this movie is still great.
However the absolute big standout of the entire film is Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine. What makes Logan / Wolverine such a fantastic character is that at first he doesn't want to be a part of the X-Men team he wants to be left alone he wants to do his own thing but at the film goes on he starts to learn to accept that he needs to be a member of the X-Men to protect the mutant race. Probably the best moment with Logan/Wolverine is where He starts to have flashbacks of his past and starts to develop PTSD because of what happened to him at the Weapon X facility. Not only was it a really dark and nail bind scene but also foreshadowed the events in X2 X-Men United because in that film you get to learn more about Wolverine's past. It is probably the most important moment of the entire film. Fun fact actors like Keanu Reeves, Edward Norton, Russell Crow, Bob Hoskins, Mel Gibson, John Claude Van Damme, Aaron Eckhart, Viggo Mortensen, Glenn Danzig, Gary Sinise, Dougray Scott, And Harrison Ford were all considered to play Wolverine.
Patrick Stewart plays Charles Xavier / Professor X In the film. I have to say he still does an excellent job as the character. What makes Charles Xavier/Professor X such an amazing character that he believes that both mutants and humans can coexist with each other because he is trying to create peace for both the mutants and the humans. Probably the best moment with Professor X is where he and Magneto are talking and he is telling him that mutants and humans can get along but Magneto tell him that can't ever happen because humans have been mistreating the mutants for a very long time. Not only was it really interesting but it made sense because it was showing that both characters have different ideologies of the situation Professor X believes that mutants and humans can get along well Magneto believes that only the mutants should be the dominant race And it's probably the most intense scene of the film It's probably the most accurate moment because this is very similar to real life because some people believe that immigrants can't come into their state or country. But some people believe that they can get along and put their differences aside. The chemistry between him and Hugh Jackman is outstanding.
Famke Janssen plays Jean Grey In the film. I have to say she still does any terrific job as the character. Now Jean Gray as a character is relatively accurate to the comics she likes wolverine but she also likes Cyclops And she is shown that she really cares about her team. But much like cyclops she doesn't really do much in these movies Even in exterior X-Men united even though she had a little bit more to do if she feels more like background character it just feels like had a lot more to do in these X-Men films.
James Marsden plays Scott Summers/Cyclops In the film. I have to say he still does a good job as the character he looks like Cyclops from the comics his personality is pretty accurate to the source material. But the problem is he doesn't really do anything in the film he's just there to argue with Wolverine and to be honest their rivalry is really funny and entertaining because they both love Jean Gray. Also Cyclops is supposed to be the leader of the entire X-Men team and I understand when Hugh Jackman was cast as Wolverine they wanted Wolverine to be the leader and that's fine but I think what they should have made at Cyclops the main character and have Wolverine as a secondary character that way it could be just like how it is in the comics. Fun fact actors like Ben Affleck, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Jim Cavizzle, Thomas Jane, Ethan Hawke, Matt Damon, Michael Biehn, Johnny Lee Miller, and Christian Bale were all considered to play Cyclops.
Halle Berry as Ororo Munroe/Storm I still think she does a great job as this character. I still think she is really smart. I still think she is comic book accurate. But I wish much like cyclops I wish she had more to do in this movie I just feel like she was underwritten in these X-Men films.
Anna Paquin plays Marie D'Ancanto/Rogue In the film. I have to say she does a good job as the character. But the character of Rogue in the film is pretty bad because she's just here to be rescued and just to be looked after by Logan / Wolvenrine. Also the film wants you to feel bad because she is conflicted of does she want her powers or does she not want them and is just really down and praying annoying because in the comics and the cartoons Rogue was a strong and awesome character and she had a southern accent. The chemistry between her and Hugh Jackman is decent.
Ray Park plays Toad In the film. I have to say he still does a great job as the character. Now this interpretation of Toad is relatively different from the one that I found in the comics in the comics and the cartoons he is very short but in this film he is tall. To be perfectly honest i'm actually okay with that it is a very different interpretation of the character but there are some stuff that is accurate to the character in the comics and the cartoons for example he is always by Magneto side helping him to Help him destroy humanity and make the mutants the dominant race. Also much like the comics he does use his long tongue for combat when he fights Wolverine and Storm in the film's climax. Probably the best scene with Toad is where he tells Sabertooth to not play around and not only was it really funny but it made sense because they had to focus on helping Magneto turn all the world leaders into mutants. It is probably one of the funniest things in the entire film.
Rebecca Romijn as Mystique I still think she does a great job as his character. What makes Mystique such a great character is that she basically impersonates Senator Kelly because the original one is dead. I still think this one is way better than the mystique from the newer X-Men films played by Jennifer Lawrence because in those movies she is way too nice but in these movies she is really threatening and really sinister. The chemistry between her and Ian McKellen is still great.
Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto I still think he does a tremendous job as this character. What makes Erik Lyncher / Magneto Such a remarkable villain is he really understandable motivation because he thinks he's doing good by turning all the world leaders into mutants because he wants to protect the mutant race but in reality he's doing a lot more harm than good. My favorite line is when Magneto says Toad has a wicked tongue senator.¨ Another favorite moment with Magneto is where he tries to rips out Wolverine's adamantium skeleton from his body It's probably one of the darkest scenes in this movie. Also Magneto is up there with Thanos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as one of the best comic to screen adaptations Fun fact actors like John Hurt, Ron Perlman Gary Oldman, Terrence Stamp, Eddie Redmayne, Christopher Lee, Jack Nicholson, Denzel Washington, Giancarlo Esposito, Viggo Mortensen, Al Pacino, Liam Neeson, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Andrew Garfield, Jeremy Irons, Daniel Day-Lewis, Dustin Hoff, man, Christian Bale, Anton Lesser, Frank Dillon, David Hemblen, Harvey Keitel, Claes Bang, Michael Shannon, Jason Isaacs, Jack Hudson were all considered to play Magneto.
The directing by, Bryan Singer Is really interesting because i want the terrific job of getting most of the stuff from the comics right like Magneto's origin and his motivations because in the comics he does have good intention he just going bout doing things in the wrong way and he was born in a concentration camp. I also like how he does discuss the topic of racism and discrimination because it is a really big problem and I'm glad he took the subject really seriously because it can be a very sensitive topic to discuss if people are uncomfortable about talking about because they might have gone through something very tragic and very messed up. So I'm happy that he took the subject really seriously and also the comics do to the X-Men cover discrimination and Acceptance. Now well he does get a few things right he also gets a few things wrong like he doesn't make Cyclops the leader he just makes him the secondary character which that was kind of a dumb idea because I want to be the alpha of the team but in this he's just a secondary character that doesn't really do anything he doesn't really go through A character Arc. So I do wish He made Cyclops the main character. But I think other than that he did a dethuent job directing this film.
So in conclusion for this being the very first X-Men film I still really enjoy this film the storyline of the X-Men trying to stop Magneto from turning all the world leaders into mutants is a really interesting and entertaining storyline Because that is accurate to the comics the X-Men and Magneto have a complicated history there sometimes allies but sometimes they are mostly enemies. I also think most of the performances are really amazing Especially from Hugh Jackman and Ian McKellen as both Wolverine and Magneto I think those two give it their all and they have really amazing chemistry with one another. I also like how this film is really serious but there are some funny moments in the film like the moments between Wolverine and cyclops arguing those moments were really funny and it is accurate to the comics because Wolverine and Cyclops don't get along because they both love Jean Gray. But I do wish the film gave like Cyclops storm and Rogue got more development because you kind of forget that they're even in the movie and it's kind of a problem because they are the main characters in The X-Men comics. But I think other than those couple problems I do think this was a brilliant start to the X-Men film series. I highly recommend you watch the film especially if you like X2 X-Men United which also Stars Hugh Jackman. I give this movie a 10/10.
