Here My Movie Review of Ant-Man And The Wasp
Now when it comes to this film a lot of people say that it is one of the most forgettable films in the MCU and to be completely honest I always enjoyed this film because of the storyline and the humor is still really funny and I know a lot of people don't really like the MCU humor nowadays has become dumb and not funny but the Ant-Man movie I think the jokes are consistent because the Ant-Man movies are a lot more lighthearted. Also this is in my top three favorite Phase 3 MCU films.
Now the storyline this movie is really interesting because It takes place after Captain America civil War and Avengers Infinity War left off and Scott Lang/Ant-Man is on house arrest because he violated the sokovia Accords And he is spending time with his daughter Cassie but they start having veterans of Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp and he gets recruited by Hank Pam and hope Van Dyne To get her mother out of the Quantum Realm and then you have Ava star who is getting poisoned by the quantum realm and she decided to you the quantum tunnel to tear Janet apart by absorbing her Quantum energy so She can be cared and it's up to Scott Lang/Ant-Man to help Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp get her mother out on the quantum realm and take down Ava Star/Ghost and find a cure for her and that's basically what the story is for this film. I have to say out of all the Ant-Man films this one probably has my favorite storyline because it develops more of Hope and Scott's relationship and Cassie has a lot more to do in this film.
The performances In the film are still terrific in fact i think out the Ant-Man filmed this one probably has the best acting out of the sequels because I still think the first movie had the best acting but it turned that the sequels this one has the best performances out of the sequels.
Paul Rudd still gives a really fun and terrific performance as Scott Lang/Ant-Man In this film Because you can tell that he is still having a lot of fun at the character you know Paul Rudd can never give a horrible performance and this character. Now Scott Lang / Ant-Man as a character has not changed he's still funny he is still really Entertain to watch and this one they develop him more because he wants to help Hope van Dyne / The Wasp get her mother out of the quantum realm And he also wants to set an example for his daughter Cassie by being the hero that she wants him to be. The scenes with Scott Lang/Ant-Man Are probably some of my favorite moments in the film whether it is him turning into giant man in the ocean or him playing with his daughter Cassie in the beginning of the film or him reacting to having a small desk because he was on house arrest it doesn't lead to some really funny and some really emotional moments throughout the film. The chemistry between him and Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, David Dastmalchian, Abby Ryder Fortson, Michael Douglas, and Hannah John-kamen is still remarkable.
However the absolute big standout of the entire film is Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne Because she probably gives her best performance as this character. Now Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp as a character has really developed since the first movie because at first she didn't like Scott Lang she didn't want him to become Ant-Man but she eventually started to like him and they started to fall in love and she was also coping with the lost of her mother because she thought she was dead but in reality Janet was stuck in the quantum realm and in this film she wants to get her out and be reunited with her. The scenes with Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp Are incredible whether it is her fighting Ava star/Ghost for the first time or her being reunited with her mother Or her preventing Scott Lang / Ant-Man from drowning underwater and see kisses him it does lead to some really powerful and emotional moments in the film.
Michael Pena comes back as Louis and he's still really fun and really funny as he was in the first film. Now the character of Luis has not changed he is still really funny and he wants to help Scott Lang / Antman help Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp get her mother out of the Quantum Realm and take down Ava Star/Ghost and be reunited with her. The scenes with Luis are still funny whether it is the scene where he's getting truth scare me go down this long story and sort of recapping the events of the first Ant-Man movie or him reacting to being in a tiny car I need like freaking out like they're going to die but they didn't die it does lead to some really funny and some really entertaining moments throughout the film. I think Luis is up there with Katy from Shang-chi at one of the funniest MCU side characters. The chemistry between him and Paul Rudd is excellent.
David Dastmalchian comes back as Kurt In this film and he's still just as funny and as entertaining as he was in the first film because you can tell that he is having a lot of fun and this character. Now the character of Kurt has not changed he's still really funny and in this film he wants to help Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp get Hope´s mother out of the Quantum Realm so she could be reunite with her and take down Ava Starr/Ghost the scenes with Kurt are still entertaining whether it's him being afraid of Baba Yaga or him Giving his friends the pastry food it does lead to some really fun and some really funny moments in the film. The chemistry between him and Paul Rudd is incredible.
Michael Douglas comes back as Hank Pym In the film And he's still is really fun and really entertaining as this character you could tell that he is having a lot of fun in this film. Now the character of Hank Pym is very interesting because in the first movie he really harsh on Scott Lang because he did believe that he should become Ant-Man but they eventually did grow till like each other and the other reason why he is a bit grumpy in the first film that he thought his wife Janet Van Dyne died but in this film you find out she's not dead she is actually stuck in the quantum realm. Now this film he is a lot more open up with his emotions he cracks a couple jokes but he still wants his wife to return to him and he wants Scott Lang / Ant-Man to help him get her out of the Quantum realm. The scenes with Hank Pym are really awesome in fact they are probably some of my favorite moments in the entire Ant-Man Trilogy whether it is him saying to Scott you want a juice box and some string cheese or him reuniting with his wife Janet Van Dyne and it doesn't lead to some really powerful and some really funny moments throughout the film. The chemistry between him and Paul Rudd is still really Spectacular.
Abby Ryder Fortson comes back as Scott Lang / Antman's daughter Cassie Lang In the film and she is still really fun and really entertaining because she still gives a really fun and really emotional child performance as this character to be honest her performing is so good she even better than she was in the first film even though I really liked her in the first movie I think she is even more fun to watch in this film. Now the character of Cassie Lang is really interesting because in the first movie she just wanted to spend time with her dad Scott Lang/Ant-Man. But this movie Cassie wants Scott Lang/Ant-Man to be the hero that she wants him to be and wants him to help Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp be reunited with her mother and wants to help people like him. To be honest Cassie is the emotional core of this film. The scenes with Cassie Lang are probably some of my favorite moments of this film whether it is her hugging Scott Lang when he is done being on house arrest or her and him talking about him being a hero and the fact that she knows that he is Ant-Man which is interesting you'll think that the kid would be the last person to know who Scott Lang really is. But she knew that her dad was Ant-Man way back in the first movie where he removed his helmet before the final battle in the film. It does lead to some really powerful and heartwarming moments in the film. The chemistry between her and Paul Rudd Is perfect.
Hannah John-Kamen plays Ava Star/Ghost In the film and she's still really fun and entertaining as the character because you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character and to be honest I think she's up there with Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow from Moon Knight as one of the most underrated MCU villain performances. Now the character of Ava Star/Ghost and they really interesting character because you really feel bad for it because when she was younger her father Elias star with killed in a Quantum Realm accident and Bill Foster had to take care of her and she absorbed some of the quantum energy from the explosion and she had the ability to phase in and out now. But it was tearing her body apart and playing itself back together and she wants to be cured. I still think her motivation is really incredible how she just wants to be cared of her condition and she doesn't want to have her body be teared apart only for the put it´s self back together I think she's up there with Xu Wenwu from Shang Chi one of the most tragic MCU villains because much like him Ava star has lost her family because they died in front of her. The scenes with Ava Star/Ghost are really entertaining and really incredible whether it's her tell Scott Lang/ Ant-Man her backstory of how she became Ghost For her being cared of her phasing it doesn't lead to some really emotional and intense moments in the film. The chemistry between her and Paul Rudd is excellent. Fun fact Hannah John-Kamen would eventually reprise the role of Ava Star/Ghost the 2025 film Thunderbolts*
However the best thing about this movie is the directing by Peyton Reed because why I love about his directing that he develops more of the characters especially the character of Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp because in the first film she didn't really like Scott Lang she didn't think he was necessary to become Ant-Man. But she started to like him and in this film she wants to be reunited with her mother and the way he develop their relationship is perfect. I also like how he developed more of the relationship between Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Cassie because Scott Lang/Ant-Man wants to make Cassie happy and be the hero that she wants him to be. I think it was really terrific of how he did that and the way he develops Ava Star /Ghost as this very tragic villain who just wants to be cured of her condition Is really amazing so I did overall he did a terrific job directing the film.
So in conclusion i still think this is the most underrated MCU film of phase 3 because a lot of people either say this film is forgettable or one or more mediocre films in phase 3 and I disagree with that statement to be completely honest on this is still fun and really entertaining I will say this movie is better than Captain Marvel because I feel like Captain Marvel with just more boring and not interesting. Well this film had a really interesting storyline that being Scott Lang / Ant-Man wanting to help Hope Van Dyne /The Wasp get her mother out of the quantum room so she could be reunited with her family as well as spending more time with his daughter Cassie be the hero that she wants him to be as well as trying to take down Ava Star/Ghost but also help her find a cure for her condition. Also the performances are really terrific especially from Paul Rudd and Abby Ryder Fortson those two actors steal the show they give so much heart and emotion as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Cassie Lang and you can tell that they are having a lot of fun as these characters. Also Evangeline Lily gives her best performance as Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp she probably gives the emotional performance in this film. Also the jokes in this movie are really funny especially Luis telling his long stories or Hank Pym says to Ant Man hey champ how is school? Also I will say the humor is way better than the humor She-Hulk because that show did have some jokes that made me laugh but most of it was just really dumb and not funny. this movie is actually funny. I think this film is up there with Deadpool 2 as one of the funniest movies of 2018. This is also in my top five favorite movies of 2018. Also this is probably up there with Captain America Brave New World with Harrison Ford as one of the most underrated MCU films. I highly recommend you watch this film especially if you like the first Ant-Man movie with Paul Rudd. Then I'm sure you're going to like this film as well. I give this movie a 10/10.
