Here is My Movie Review Of Evil Dead Rise
Now when it comes to the Evil Dead films I have never seen any of them. So this was the very first one I saw and I have to say after watching this film this film actually made me want to watch the other evil dad films because this one is probably one of the best horror movies of 2023 because as much as I enjoy Renfield with Nicholas Cage I have to say I like this film a lot better because this film is a lot more scarier because Renfield is a horror comedy. But both films are still really fun and really entertaining.
Now the storyline in this film is really interesting because we focus around this family and the mother Ellie she is coping with the Lost of her husband because he left the family and they are kind of falling apart and one day Ellie start to go crazy gets possessed and becomes a Deadite and she starts to hunt down the rest of her family and it's up to beth and the rest of the family to survive against Ellie and avoid being asked off by her and that's basically what the story is for this film. I have to see the storyline is really dark and really terrific because this film focuses around trauma and being drifted apart because Ellie's husband left the family. That's why things are not going well for the family.
Now as much as the storyline is tremendous the best thing about this film is the acting because all the performances are tremendous even the actors that are new to actors even they give really powerful and captivating performances.
Lily Sullivan gives a really powerful and really mesmerizing performance as the character of Beth because she gives a really raw and captivating performance as this character. Also you can tell that she is having a lot of fun in this film. Now the character of Beth Is tremendous because this is a woman who really cares about her family and she'll do anything in her power to protect them from daughter Ellie is he go through a really powerful and emotional character because she wants to protect her granddaughter Kassie from Ellie so she wouldn't be killed by the other Deadlines. Now there are so many tremendous moments with Beth whether it is her and Kassie trying to outrun the Deadite. Or one of my favorite moments in the film is where Beth and Kassie are trying to escape through the elevator and there is blood spewing everywhere it does lead to some really Insane and nail biting moments throughout the film. The chemistry between her and Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Gabrielle Echois is remarkable.
However, as brilliant as Lily Sullivan is in this film, The true stand out Alyssa Sutherland who gives probably one of the most horrifying and one the most downright terrifying performances as the character Ellie now to say her performance is scary that's quite lightly herbal format is spine tingling to the point that it'll probably creep you out as you watch this film and you can tell that Alyssa Sutherland Is having a blast as character. Now the character of Ellie is downright creepy because at first she is unhappy that her husband left her for the rest of the family. But as the film goes on she becomes more and more demonic and deranged to the point that she would try to kill her whole family. Now there are so many moments with Ellie that I really enjoy but my favorite moment and everyone has talked about this part is the infamous bathtub scene holy shit that scene is fucking disturbing just her putting on that demonic smile trying to lure her family into the bathroom to try to kill them is really creepy and scenes of her like picking off her family members one by one it's really horrifying and Does lead to some really terrifying and haunting moments throughout the film. I think Ellie is up there with The Boogeyman from The Boogeyman as one of the scariest villains of 2023. The chemistry between her and Lily Sullivan is incredible.
Morgan Davies plays Danny in the film and his performance is really excellent because he gives such a captivating and remarkable performance as the character. Now Danny as a character really cares about the family he really wants to protect them against his mother Ellie to prevent them from being killed by her. The scenes with Danny are really fun to watch but they are really creepy whether it is him listening to the haunted record player of the priest. But my favorite favorite moment is where Danny turns into a Deadite and his transformation Is pretty graphic and really horrifying and it is probably one of the most disturbing as fuck moments of the entire film. Now that's not saying much because this film had a lot of messed up shit but that scene alone is entertaining but it is really creepy. The chemistry between him and Lily Sullivan is magnificent.
Now for being Nell Fisher's first film debut she did not disappoint she give a really captivating an emotional child performance performance as the character of Kassie because you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character and I am looking forward to seeing what she's going to do in the future especially and Stranger Things Season 5. Now the character of Kassie is brilliant because she is the heart and soul of this entire film. She had the emotional cord that holds this movie together because you can tell she really cared about her family. She doesn't want her mother to kill her and the rest of the family. Now there are so many moments with Kassie I really enjoy Weather in at her seeing her mother barf and turn into a Deadite or her bonding with her siblings it does lead to some really scary and some really emotional moments in the film especially where she bath team of the kill all the Deadite in the climax that is by doubt my favorite moment of the entire film. The chemistry between her and Lily Sullivan is exhilarating.
Gabrielle Echois plays Bridget In the film and her performance is downright tremendous because she pours so much heart and emotion into this performance and you can tell that she is having the time of her life playing this character. Now the character of Bridget because you can tell that she really cared about her family. She does not want anything bad to happen to them because she doesn't want her mother Ellie to kill any of them. The scenes with Bridget are tremendous Whether it is her bonding with her family or her seeing her mother Ellie turn into a Deadite it does lead to some really emotional and some really heart pounding moments throughout the film. My favorite moment in the film is where she sees her mother Ellie hitting her head against the door demanding her family to let her in. It is probably one of the most disturbing as hell moments in the film because she wants to turn them into Deadites as well. The chemistry between her and Lily Sullivan is perfect.
But the thing I really want to talk about is Lee Cronin directing because holy molly he did not disappoint with this film now he directed a movie back in 2019 called The Hole in The Ground and I thought that film was really entertaining. I have to say this is his best direct to film because what I love about his directing that he really makes you feel bad for the family this is a family that is broken because their father has left them their mother Ellie is slowly going insane and and when she turns he really does a magnificent job of showing her dark side it how far she'll go to turn her whole family into deadites and kill anyone who gets in her way. I also like how he directed the horror in the film because this film does not hold back of being scared there are so many horrifying moments like the bathtub scene the scenes of the characters blending out their faces is really creepy and even screens ware stuff is calm it's still becomes more creepy like the scene where Ellie is trying to manipulate Kassie to open the door and join her and it does lead to some really frightful moments throughout the film. I also like how he does not hold back with the blood because throughout the movie people are getting their necks snapped, they barf up bugs, there's people getting their eyeballs ripped out. There is a scene of Beth and Kassie trying to survive and escape in Elevator and it is spewing blood everywhere which really reminds me of the scene The Shining with the bloody elevator. So overall I think he did a magnificent job directing this film.
So in conclusion I really loved this film. The storyline was really tremendous because having a revolve around this broken family trying to keep things together and Ellie going slowly insane and then she eventually snaps and trying to kill her or her whole family by turning them into Deadite Is it really creepy but really amazing concept and the film executes that concept really well in fact this is probably up there with cured of the flower Moon in terms of having one of the best storylines of 2023. But as great as the storyline is, the thing that makes this movie downright perfect are the performances, whether you're talking about Lily Sullivan's really captivating and Incredible performance as Beth. Or Alyssa Sutherland who gives the really terrifying and downright creepy performance as Ellie. In fact she is probably my favorite performance throughout this entire movie. Every time she's on screen her performance gets creepier and a lot more horrifying as the film goes on and it works perfectly. Also Nell Fisher gave a really powerful and emotional performance at the character of Cassie in this film because you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character and I'm really looking forward to seeing what she is going to do in the future especially with Stranger Things Season 5. Also the scares in this movie are tremendous especially that bathtub scene where Ellie emerges from the bathtub and is trying to kill her family, that scene is the one the most disturbing sequences of the entire film and one of my favorite moments of the entire film because of the build up to Ellie going insane. Also I think Ellie is up there with Dracula from Renfield as one of my favorite villains of 2023. I also think she is up there with Galactus from Fantastic Four First Steps and one of the best villains of the 2020s. Now this is going to surprise a lot of people but this film is in my top 3 favorite films of 2023. Yes, I like this film that much. I highly recommend you watch this film especially if you like really dark and chilling films like Heretic with Hugh Grant then you'll definitely like this film as well. I give this movie 10/10.
