Here is My Movie Review of The Old Guard
So basically what happened is that you have this woman named Andy and see if this leader of this group of immortals and she meets this Girl named Nile Freeman And Amy will there be on their team and they have to stop this guy named Steven Merrick Who want to kill all the immortals because he viewed them as a threat so it's up to Andy and her team to take down Steve Merrick And prevent him from killing the rest of the immortals. That is basically what the story is for the film. I have to say the storyline in this movie is actually really interesting. Having it revolve around a group of Immortals trying to stop essentially an evil scientist from trying to kill them is a terrific concept and the film executes it perfectly.
The acting in this movie is terrific because you can tell that all these actors are giving it they're all as these character then this is probably up there with Another Round at one of the best acted films of 2020.
However the absolute big standout of the entire film is Charlize Therone as Andy in this film because she gives one the most captivating in one of the most entertaining performances of the entire movie and that is because that Charlize Theron Is a tremendous actress because if you watch her and stuff like Mad Max Fury Road when she played the older version of Anya Taylor-Jones´s character Furiosa and she did a fantastic job with her performance as that character. Now the character of Andy is tremendous because she doesn't take nonsense from anybody. She is so determined to complete this mission and stop Steve Merrick from killing her and her team. The scenes Of Amy interacting with our team are really tremendous whether it is the scene of her meeting Nile Freeman or her telling her about her tragic backstory of her losing her sister are some of the most powerful and one the most captivating scenes of the entire film. The chemistry between her and Morrowind Kazari, Chewetel Ejifor, Kiki Layne, and Harry Melling Is excellent.
Kiki Layne plays Nile Freeman In the film and her performance is probably my favorite performance in the film because she does give a really raw and emotional performance as this character. Now the character of Nile Freeman Is really interesting because she's essentially the heart and soul of the entire movie. See the thing that holds the team together now even though she doesn't want to be part of a team she does accept them as her family and she wants to help Andy take down Steve Merrick and prevent her family from being killed. The scenes involving Nile Freeman Are really interesting weather it's her leading her trips into war and she loses them or it's the theme where she first meets Andy and doesn't want to be a part of a team do lead to some really emotional and really entertainment moments throughout the film and the relationship between her and Andy is the strongest aspect of the entire film. The chemistry between her and Charlize Throne Is still terrific because you can tell that both of them are having a lot of fun as these characters in this film.
Now let's talk about Marwin Kanzari. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of this actor because I did not like him as Jafar in Aladdin 2019. I thought he was really horrible in that film. He was just really miscast as that character. Also I didn't like him in the movie ghosted because he didn't really do anything he took out run over by a car in that movie so he was very wasted. But I have to say his performance in the film as Joe Is spectacular. I have to say this is one of the better performances that he is given in his career. Now the character of Joe is incredible because he wants to help his leader Andy and the rest of the team prevent Steve Merrick from killing off their entire team. The scene where Joe and the rest of the team are informed to train the lab and kill all of these other mercenaries then not only are they really automating, but it makes sense because they need to take down Steve Merrick so he doesn't kill any more humans or experiment on them. It is probably one of the most nail-biting at one more suspenseful moments of the entire film. The chemistry between him and Charlize Throne Is magnificent.
Now let's talk about Chiwetel Ejifor because he is a tremendous actor I always enjoy him in films like Doctor Strange where you played Baron Mordo and I even enjoy them in The Lion King 2019 when he voiced Scar I did really have a problem with him playing that character because I actually really liked his performance in that film. Now his performance in this film as James Copley and his performance is actually really fun and really entertaining because you can tell that he is having a lot of fun as this character. Now the character of James Compley Is really incredible because he starts out as a villain and then by the end of the film he starts to have a change of heart and joins Andy and her team. The scene where James Copley Introduces himself to Andy and her team is probably one of the most chilling moments of the entire film because he doesn't want them to stop Steve Merrick from experimenting on other Immortals. It is probably one of the most suspenseful moments of the entire film. The chemistry between him and Charlize Therone is incredible.
Harry Melling plays Steve Merrick In the film. I have to say I have all the performances. He is probably the weakest performance in the film. He wasn't terrible but I felt like he just gave an okay performance as the character. Now the character of Steve Merrick Is just there he's not a horrible villain like you hate him as you should but he's just not that interesting because it feels like he accept the carbon copy of Colonel Williams Striker from X2 X-Men United because that character hated a Pacific group of people that being the mutants well in this film Steve Merrick hates Immortals which If not as compelling and watching Cornell Williams Striker treat mutants like garbage. The scene when Steve Merrick ambushes ending and her team well a great moment and it's just how disgusting he is I just found the scene X2 where William Striker experiments on his own son and I think that scene is a lot more interesting because it shows how vile and disgusting William Striker is as a villain. The Rivalry between him and Andy was just okay, it wasn't anything special and it didn't hold a candle to the rivalry between Furiosa and Immortan Joe Max Fury Road because actually built it up kind of showed it rather than build it up. The chemistry between him and Charlize Throne is really terrific.
The directing by Gina Prince Bythewood Is interesting because what I like about her directed that's another thing glorious job of developing a lot of the characters like for example Andy who is the leader of the team she had to lose her Sister because the people viewed Immortals as Abominations and they said they all needed to die and everything see became really hardened and didn't take nonsense from anybody. I also like how she developed the character of Nile Freeman because at first she didn't want Andy to take care of her and have her be on her team. She wanted to be alone but later on she accepted Andy and her team as her family because she is actually the heart and soul of the entire film. I think it is really terrific of how she did that. So overall I think she did a terrific job directing this film.
So in conclusion I still really enjoyed this film. The storyline was really interesting having it revolve around Andy leading this group of Immortals to protect this girl Niki Freeman And trying to prevent other people from experimenting with honor and her team. What a really great concept and it works perfectly. The performances are really tremendous. You can tell that all these actors are having the time of their life in the film. The two standout performances are from Charlize Therone and Chiwetel Ejifor Because I'm those two actors who gave such Captivating and entertaining performances in the film. I still think this film is up there with Mank With Gary Oldman as one of my favorite films of 2020. I highly recommend you watch this film especially if you like Mad Max Fury Road which also starred Charlize Therone. Then I'm sure you're going to like this one as well. I give this movie a 8/10.
