Here is My Movie Review of Prince Avalanche
So basically what happens is that you have this guy named Alvin and he has his girlfriend's brother Lance and they decide to leave a city life behind and move to the countryside and become traffic lane repairman who install traffic lines on the road. So Alvin wants Lance to be more independent and just not worry about anything in order to enjoy being outside. But then you find out that Alvin got dumped by Lance's sister Madison and he is trying not to think about it. So it's up to Alvin to prove to Lance that it is fun being in the countryside as well as trying to get him to be more independent. That is basically what the story is for this film. I have to say the storyline is really interesting because it literally is based off of the Forest fire that happened in Central Texas 1988. I also like it because all the focus is on Alvin trying to get Lance to be more independent and trying to make him enjoy being outside.
Now the acting in this movie is still terrific because the film only focuses around two characters for the majority of the film and both actors play the characters really perfectly. I think acting is up there with the acting in her as one of the best acted films of 2013.
However the absolute big standout of the entire film is Paul Rudd as Alvin because he gives such a remarkable and captivating performance because any movie that Paul Rudd in I will immediately watch because Paul Rudd is my favorite actor of all time and this is probably his most underrated performance he has ever given. Now the character of Alvin is incredible because here's a guy that has been through a lot his girlfriend broke up with him. He wants Lance to enjoy being outside and be more independent and not be all worried about anything. The scene where Alvin finds out that Lance has been reading his letters And understandably he kind of gets mad at Lance because those letters were private and not only was it really Incredible. It was a really shocking moment. But it makes sense because Alvin didn't want Lance to know that he was in love with his sister and he did want him to know. It is probably one more heavier moment of the entire film because Paul Rudd does a glorious job of just letting out all that anger and emotion as this character. The chemistry between him and Emile Hirsch is incredible because these two work so well together in this film to the point that you'll actually believe they were friends. That's how brilliant their chemistry was in this film.
Emile Hurst Play the Lance in the film and much like Paul Rudd he also gives a really powerful and Captivating performance because he just give a really raw and emotional performance and this character and to be honest It's really hard for me to pick who gave the best performance overall because they both did a tremendous job in this film. But I do think Paul Rudd is the big standout of the entire film because his performance was a lot more powerful but Emile Hirsch was also really fantastic in this film because he also gives a really powerful and emotional performance. Now the character of Lance is interesting because he's kind of a bum in this movie he's not really that interested of being in the great outdoors he wants to go back to the city but Alvin wants him to like learn to take all of it in it just have fun with being in the countryside and want him to be more independent. The scene where Lance gets mad at Alvin for not telling him that he was dating his sister. Not only was it really sad. But making sense because Alvin never told Lance the truth about his love life. It is probably the most heartbreaking moment of the entire film. The chemistry between him and Paul Rudd is terrific.
However the best thing about this film is the directing by David Gordon Green Because what I like about his directing now they glorious job are developing Alvin and Lance because both of them are going through stuff because Alvin is suffering through relationship problems and Lance doesn't want to work with him outside he just wants to sit around and do nothing because he's so depressed. I also like how he loosely made this film based on the fire that happened in Texas in 1988 Because it did really happen around that time.
So in conclusion I still really liked this film, the storyline revolving around Alvin and Lance trying to bond outside and them trying to get along as well as Alvin trying to fix his relationship with Madison is incredible because Is trying to say that It is a really great thing To try to get along and form a friendship with one another and I think the film handles that message perfectly. Also Paul Rudd gives one of his best performances and quite possibly one of the most underrated performances of his entire career. You can just tell that he is having a lot of fun in this film. Also the bonding between Alvin and Lance is the strongest aspect of the entire film. I think this film is up there with the Kings of Summer as one month underrated films of 2013 because not a lot of people talk about This film it is kind of a shame because this does have a really great cast and premise especially if you like really powerful and emotional films like Spaceman from 2024 with Paul Dano. I think more people should watch the film especially if you enjoy Locke with Tom Hardy. Then I'm sure you're going to like this one. I give this movie a 10/10.
