Here is My Movie Review of Death Note 2017

Here is My Movie Review of Death Note 2017

So basically what happenes is that you had this guy named Light Yagami who finds this Death Note Which had the ability to kill anyone when you write their name into it so he decides to use it to kill the city's criminals and he meets this demon named Ryuk to tell them how to use it. Then you have this guy named L who wants to take down Light Yagami and put a stop to his killings and it is up to Light Yagami To Kill l and be in the world greatest killer and kill all the corrupt people in the city and that's basically what the story is for this film. The way I can sum up the story is the lousy and horrible rehash of the anime except without all the awesome or entertaining parts of that.

I think the acting in this movie is really bad except for one performance that is really entertaining.

Nat Wolf plays Light Yagami In the film. I have to say he was pretty bad in the film; he is obviously miscast in the role. I think they should have gone to someone who is actually Asian to play the role because that's how it was in the anime. Now the character of Light Yagami is completely wrong because in the anime he's really smart he wants to press stop to all the crime and corruption but in this movie he is really dumb because he doesn't even Think about if he wants to have the death note waking the anime because in the anime he liked conflicted that he want to use it or did he not want him he actually just takes it for no reason without even thinking about it. Probably the dumbest scene is where Light Yagami Is where it is having an argument with his dad and it's supposed to be really serious but it's just feels like padding and filler for the film and it's just not entertaining in the slightest. The chemistry between him and LaKeith Stanfiield, Margaret Qialley, and Willem Dafoe Is decent.

Margaret Qialley plays Mia Sutton In the film. I have to say she is really awful in this film. It just feels like she is Sleepwalking  throughout her performance in the film. Now the character of Mia Sutton Is really really bad because in the anime Mia Sutton Is tragic because she doesn't want to kill anyone at first but she eventually goes along with Light Yagami but in this film she immediately wants to do it for no reason. Also the film doesn't give her a reason, it just designs to make her into a psychopath. Probably the worst scene with Mia Sutton Is where she decided to join up with Light Yagami/Kira to kill all these criminals and it doesn't have a buildup. It suddenly happens for no reason. Also the romance between her and Light Yagami/Kira  is really awful because it had no buildup. In the anime after he doesn't like her but then she eventually does like her and this suddenly they just have feelings towards each other when they first meet and it should build it up a lot more. The chemistry between her and Nat Wolf is good.

LaKeith Stanfiield plays L in the film. I have to say he is terrible as this character. It just feels like he is just sleepwalking through his performance and not caring in the slightest. Now the character of L is nothing like how he's in the anime because in the anime he's supposed to be really smart and always wants to figure out what Light Yagami/Kira coming and going to do next by this film he's just not a really interesting character he's just really flat and unmemorable. Also L is not from Europe here Asian and he's from Japan So that's another thing that this movie gets completely wrong. Probably  worst scene with L is where he first meets James Yagami At the restaurant and it just feels like padding and filler to fill for time for the film and the conversation but between the two characters in the anime was a lot more interesting because you cared about the characters but you don't really care about any of the characters in the film. The chemistry between him and Nat Wolf is okay.

Now what seems to be universally agreed upon that the one redeeming quality of the film is Ryuk and at face value yes he was, Willem Dafoe do a fantastic job with his performance and his scenes are the best part of the film. Also a lot of people have mentioned this yes he's not this movie that much and that's really disappointing because he is the best part of the movie. I just wish he was in the film a lot more now the character of Ryuk is really accurate to the anime he's obsessed with killing and he constantly manipulates Light Yagami/Kira. But in this film he does manipulate him but he doesn't manipulate him enough. I wish he had more scene of him being a puppet master in terms of controlling Light Yagami /Kira. I'll say this out of all the characters Ryuk has all of the best lines in this movie. His dialogue is perfect and there is nothing bad about it. But again he is severely underutilized in film. Also I can tell that Willem Dafoe had a blast while voicing this character. Also the CGI on Ryuk is really awesome. Also the design for Ryuk is really accurate to how he looks in the anime because In the anime he has a lot of spikes on him. I think the film captures that really well. Probably the best scene with Ryuk Is where he is in the classroom causing havoc in front of Light Yagami/Kira. Not only was it really intense but it made sense because Light Yagami/Kira Wrote someone's name in the book which caused Ryuk to appear. It is probably the most memorable scene in the entire film. The overall design is remarkable. The chemistry between him and Nat Wolf is surprisingly amazing. They do have awesome chemistry with each other.

The directing by Adam Wingard is awful and really messy because I don't think I understand what the anime is because he gets everything wrong. The only thing he gets right is the character of Ryuk Because she was definitely telling the anime he loves to watch people suffer and die. But aside from that he gets the character of Light Yagami/Kira Wrote Completely wrong because in the anime he's really smart and sympathetic. But in this movie he is so unlikable and really dumb to the point that you don't really care for him as a character. I think they should have gone to someone who knew about The source material to direct the film. It will be more accurate to the anime.

So in conclusion this is one of the worst anime adaptations because it gets everything wrong about the anime entirely, the only thing it gets right is the character of Ryuk. Also Ryuk is the only character I liked because Willem Dafoe is really entertaining as the character. But unfortunately he is completely under utilized and  I just wished he had a lot more screen time. Also the blood effects when the people die in the film is really good. Aside from that, this movie is very boring. It doesn't have many memorable things about the film. All the characters except for Ryuk are unlikable. I say just skip and go watch the anime which is a lot more awesome and way more entertaining than this. This is in my top 5 worst films of 2017. This is also in my top 5 worst Netflix original films. I give this movie a 2/10.
