Here is My Movie Review of Ant-Man and The Wasp Quantum Mania
So basically what happens is that it takes place years after Avenger Endgame. you have Scott Lang/Antman and he has written this book called Look out for the little guy. Then he gets the call that his daughter Cassie is in jail. So they drive home and she tells her dad she, Hank, Hope, and Janet have been working on this machine that can send signals to the quantum realm. But the machine starts to now function and they all get sucked into the quantum realm. Then Scott and Cassie get Captured and held hostage to Kang the Conqueror. So he makes a deal to them if they help him fix his time machine he will let them out but it turns out he was tricking them so he can get out Quantum Realm. so it's up to Scott Lang / Antman, Cassie Lang/ Stature, Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne/The wasp and hope Van Dyne / the Wasp to take down Kang the conquer and get out of the Quantum Realm and that's basically what the story is for this movie.
Now the acting in the Ant-Man movies are tremendous I did take these films do have consistent qualities of the performances because each movie they get better and better and here is no exception all the acting is terrific.
Now Paul Rudd Has always been tremendous as Scott Lang / Ant-Man in the MCU and in this film it's no different still give the very captivating and tremendous performance and the character fact I think this is his best performance as character in the MCU because Even though he is still really funny Paul Rudd is not afraid to be serious with this character I think we take the character seriously it's really amazing even when he's being funny it still works. Now the character of Scott Lang / Ant-Man has gone through a lot in the MCU because in the first film he had to put his Criminal life behind and become the hero so he can spend more time with his daughter Cassie and become Ant-Man in Ant-Man and the wasp he had to help help Van Dyne/The Wasp get her mother out of the quantum realm and still spend time with his daughter Cassie. Now in this film Scott Lang / Ant-Man in this famous writer because he wrote this book and his daughter Cassie doesn't like him because he's not being the hero that she wants him to be and they all get stuck in the quantum realm and He meets Kang the Conqueror who makes him a deal if he can fix his time machine he can take them home but it turned out is a trap because Kang wants to get out of the quantum realm so he can go the route the Multiverse and kill every variant of himself and become the only king in the universe so Ant-Man has to get him and his friends out of the quantum realm and take down Kang. Now the themes with Scott Lang / Ant-Man are incredible whether it is the scene of him meeting King for the first time or him Seeing Darren Cross again and is surprised that he is still alive Or him fighting King in the final battle In the film. It does lead to some really intense and horrifying moments throughout the film. The chemistry between him Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, and Jonathan Majors is tremendous.
Evangeline Lily Probably gave her best performance as Hope Van Dyne/ The Wasp. What I like about hope Van Dyne / the wasp is that the MCU has done an amazing job developing her as a character because in the first movie she was moaning over the lost of her mother because she was stuck in the Quantum Realm. In the second movie she wanted to get her mother out of the quantum realm and in this movie she is questioning what her mother is so afraid of In the Quantum realm. The scenes with hope Van Dyen/The Wasp are really incredible whether it is her fighting Kang alongside Ant-Man or her finding out what happened to her mother it does lead to some really dramatic and intense moments.
Michael Douglas at Hank Pym still does an astonishing job as the character though he's not in the movie a whole lot but I think for what he does have he is still entertaining. Now Hank Pym as a character has changed a lot because in the first Ant-Man movie he was really hardened because he thought his wife was dead and he did believe that Scott Lang should be Ant-Man but at the end he does gain his trust and he becomes his mentor and help him reconnect with his daughter Cassie. In the second movie he wants brings his wife back by getting her out of the quantum realm so he and his daughter Hope can be a family again. Now in this movie Hank Pym has to Help Ant-Man get out of the quantum realm And take down Kang and M.O.D.O.K because He thought his old mentor Darren cross was dead but in reality was not. The chemistry between him and Paul Rudd is still excellent.
Michelle Pfeiffer Comes back as Janet Van Dyne/The wasp In the film and she is the Big Stand Out of the film to give a emotional and the most captivating performance Of the entire film because you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character. Now the character of Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp in a very tragic because she was stuck in the quantum realm with Kang and she never got to see her daughter ever since she got stuck in there and that's why she refuses to talk about it throughout the movie because she has so much PTSD of that experience with Kang. The scenes with Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp are really incredible Whether it is her telling Cassie to turn off the machine or or her breaking down crying telling Hank that she never wanted to tell him what happened this does lead to some really sad and dramatic moments throughout the film and I think the wasp in this film is probably my favorite character in this entire movie.
Kathryn Newton plays Cassie Lang/Stature In the film. I have to say she does a terrific job as the character and she is probably my favorite performance in the film she that gives one the most captivating one of the most entertaining performances in the film. Now the character of Cassie Lang/Stature Is really interesting because a lot of people say that she is unlikable But to be completely honest I didn't really mind this because she is a teenager she's kind of mad that her dad is not spending enough time with sort of so when she get the arguments with Scott Lang / Ant-Man it does make a lot of sense of why she'll be acting like that. Although she does appreciate her dad in the third act she gives this really Terrific and epic speech. and then Scott Lang / Ant-Man is really proud of her. The Scenes with Cassie Lang/ Stature i'll probably some of the emotional moments of the film whether it's her arguing with her dad saying that he's never around to spend time with her anymore or her hugging Scott Lang during the file battle it does lead to some really powerful and some really heartwarming moments throughout the film. The chemistry between her and Paul Ride is terrific.
William Jackson Harper plays Quaz In the film. Now he doesn't play a big role in the movie But for what he does have he still did the terrific job at the character you can tell that William Jackson Harper is having a lot of fun as this character. Now the character of Quaz Doesn't play a big role in the film but he is still really entertaining he essentially wants to help Scott Lang / Ant-Man take down King The Conquer and get him home. Also the scenes with Quaz Are really are really fun whether it is him mentioned to Scott Lang that having telepathic abilities is really dumb or him helping Ant-Man and the rest of them try to take down King it did lead to something really funny and some really suspenseful moments throughout the film.
Corey Stoll reprises his role as Darren Cross In this film. I have to say he still does a spectacular job as the character because you can tell that Corey Stoll is having a lot of fun as this character. Now the character of Darren Cross it's really interesting because in the first film He wanted the ant-Man suit to weaponize it and send it to evil organization like Hydra and the 10 rings that's why he made the yellow jacket suit for a military purpose And he wanted to kill Hank Pym because he took everything away from him and ruined his life. So Scott Lang / Ant-Man had to kill Darren Cross and banish him into the quantum realm. Now in this film Darren cross comes back but he has been mutated by Kang The Conqueror and was turned into the mechanized organism designed only for killing aka M.O.D.O.K and he wants revenge on Scott Lang/Ant-Man For banishing him to the quantum realm. To be honest I think he's the only motivation makes sense and to be completely honest I don't think M.O.D.O.K Is a horrible MCU villain because there are far worth ones like Kro from the Eternals and Aldridge Killian from Iron Man 3 I think those villains are way worse because at least M.O.D.O.K is entertaining and is accurate to the comic books even though this movie does change a few things about the character I didn't really mind the changes I actually think that they were really interesting. Now I talk about the CGI for M.O.D.O.K to be completely honest I don't think it's that bad because I do actually like the design of M.O.D.O.K that has depicted in this film. To be honest i think the Flash has the worst CGI because it just looks so horrible to look at. The scene M.O.D.O.K Are really fun whether it be the scene where he tries to kill King and he dies and he says to Ant-Man well at least I died at the Avenger or the scene where He reintroduces himself to Ant-Man it does lead to some really funny and some really suspenseful moments throughout the film. Fun fact actors Keith David, Patton Oswalt, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Josh Brolin, John Hamm,Seth Green, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, Zach McGowan, Peter Dinklage, Billy Bob Thornton, Jim Carrey were all considered to voice M.O.D.O.K. The chemistry between him and Paul Rudd is astounding.
Jonathan Majors plays Kang The Conqueror in this film. I have to say he still does a tremendous job as the character. Now the character of Kang The Conqueror is very threatening and very interesting because his motivation is that he wants to get out of the quantum realm so he can take over the multiverse and kill every variant of him self so he could be the only Kang In the universe. Also i'm going to say this and this might be a hot take but I think Kang the Conqueror is better than Lex Luthor from Superman 2025 because in this movie they don't make Kang into a fucking man child and they don't make me into a big loser they kept him threatening until the end. I mean sure they do make him a little bit of a loser in the third act but he doesn't scream and cry like a spoiled child. The scenes with Kang The Conqueror are really awesome he does have a lot stand out moments one of my favorites is his introduction scene where he says to Scott Lang / Ant-Man your Avenger have I killed you before? And then Ant-Man's like white and then Kang says they all blend together. I think that moment works because it does show how scary Kang is because this is a guy who has killed so many variants of Avengers any questions have I killed this particular variant of Ant-Man before he's like asking have I killed you before. The scenes with him and Jan Van Dyne are also awesome Both in the past and the present they play off each other perfectly and his monologue at the end is really awesome where Kang says you think this is new to me do you know how many rebellions I took down how many Avengers I've killed and you think you could beat me I am Kang you You talk to ants. I think those moments do lead to some really scary and some really nail biting moments in the film. But that being said I do think Kang is over hyped i think that's the thing that kind of ruins the character a little bit because I think they should have waited until like phase seven or eight to introduce him and the next big villain. Now I will say this Kang The Conqueror is Way better than Kro from the internals because that character had no redeeming qualities about him well Kang The Conqueror had a lot of memorable and powerful moments and Jonathan Majors gives a glorious performance. The rivalry between him and Scott Lang / Antman is perfect. Fun fact actors like Michael B Jordan, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Rudd, Christian Bale, Yahya Abdoul-Mateen II, John David Washington, Idris Elba, Mahershala Ali, Jude Law, Gary Oldman, Matthew McConaughey, Will Smith, Aldis Hodge, Coleman Domingo, Daveed Diggs, Adewale Akinnuoy-Agbaje, Keith David, Damson Idris, John Boyega, Giancarlo Esposito, David Oyelowo, Rege-Jean-Page, Trevante Rhodes, Denzel Washington, John David Washington, Lakeith Stanfield were all considered to play Kang The Conqueror. The chemistry between him and Paul Rudd is astounding.
The directing By Payton Reed Is interesting because I do think he gets a lot of stuff right like how he makes the relationship between Scott Lang/ ant-Man And his daughter Cassie much stronger than it was in the first two films because in the first films They had tremendous chemistry but here they push it even further in this film. I also like how he makes this film a lot darker than the first two films because the first two were light-hearted well this one is pretty dark because you have stuff with Janet And her past with Kang which really haunts her But then you'll have Kang The Conqueror Who Almost killed Ant-Man when they first meet in the film he almost kills Ant-Man's daughter buying snapping her neck until Aunt man demand them to stop. But I will say he does put some light heartiness in this film to make it like the first two movies like Ant-Man is still funny M.O.D.O.K´s death is hilarious. I think he does A terrific job balancing the tone Of the film. Now I will say though he does a pretty decent job of adapting King into this film but I did wish kept Kang consistent the Route the whole movie because for the first two-thirds he is really scary but by the third act when he gets attacked by ants I will say that was really dumb and really weird. But other than that I think he does a decent job of directing this film.
So in conclusion I don't think this movie is as horrible as a lot of people ben saying it is because there is a lot of stuff I enjoy about this movie the storyline even though it is the weakest one in the Ant-Man Trilogy. i do think it was interesting having it take place in the quantum realm and have an Ant-Man go up against Kang were they great concept and I did for the most part the film executes it pretty well there are moments especially in the last ac was little shaky and a little weird but I think overall the storyline was really interesting. Also I think the performances are remarkable. The two standout performances are from Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer I think both of them do a splendid job as the characters. I did think that they had tremendous chemistry throughout the film. I still think Kang is really entertaining and fun and he has a lot of fun and really dark moments. I did think his backstory with Janet Was really intense and really disturbing it does fit with the tone of this film because this film is the darkest out of the Ant-Man films. I would also say that M.O.D.O.K was really fun and entertaining and I didn't mind the changes to the character. I still think this is one of the most underrated films of 2023 because I don't think it is as horrible as a lot of people say it is because I would rather watch this over Kraven The Hunter because that film is garbage. I think this film is up there with Furiousa A Mad Max Saga with Ayna-Taylor Joy as one of the most underrated films of the 2020s. I highly recommend you watch this film especially if you like the first two Ant-Man films which also star Paul Rudd. I give this movie a 8/10.
