Here is my movie review of Eternals.
Now the story in this film is really interesting having it revolve around these eternals who are made by the celestial these giant creatures that are sent to Earth to keep everything in Balance and they have to obey Celestial or else consequences happen and Ikaris starts to turn on them and believe that what they're doing is wrong and they he believed they have to interfere to keep everything in balance and They also have to take down these aliens Called the devians and take down Acuras to keep the universe in Balanced And take down Acuras and that's basically what the story is for this film. I have to say the storyline with actual and really good haven't revolved around these eternals trying to protect the universe and keep it in Balance what a really great idea for an MCU movie and I think for the most part it does work there are moments where the story were it is little messy but I will say though it's not as messy as like Spider-Man 3 because that movie from 2007 is even worse and more miss than this film .
Now a lot of people say that the acting in Eternals is really bad and really unwatchable. i disagree with that statement I still think the acting isn't all that bad because I did think for the most part the acting is very consistent I still think everyone gives it they're all. although to be honest only one bad performance in this entire film I think all the rest of the performances work It is just that one that didn't work. Also if you really see really bad acting go watch Batman versus Superman Dawn of Justice that has acting that is so bad that it is virtually unwatchable. Also nobody is giving any good performances in that movie well in this movie I think for the most part everyone give tremendous performances.
Angelina Jolie plays Thena In the film And her performance is incredible you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character. No Tina as a character is really interesting because she really cared about her team but she also has to keep her powers and checked because she had this thing whatever she goes out of control she starts attacking her teammates and her team has to calm her down and she has to take down Icarus and keep the universe imbalance. The scenes of Thena are are Incredible whether it is her trying to control her powers or one of my favorite moments in the film is where she and Ajax are talking on a personal level and Ajak tells her that it's important to protect the ones that you love and It does lead to some really powerful and emotional stuff in the film The chemistry between her and Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, German chain, Kumail Nanjiani, Barry Keoghan, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh, and Richard Madden is astonishing.
Salma Hayek plays Ajak In the film And her performance is incredible because she gives such a raw and emotional performance as this character And you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character. Now Ajak as a character It's incredible because much like the rest of her team she want to keep the universe inbounds and doesn't want to upset the celestials because if she does the universe will become unbalanced and bad stuff will happen and she also wants to take down Ikaris and protect the entire universe. The scenes with Ajak Are really interesting like when she reunites with Kingo and the rest of the eternals or trying to battle Kro and she dies and she says her final farewell to her fellow teammates it does laid to some really powerful and some really emotional stuff in the film. Fun fact actresses like Ana De Armas, Eiza Gonzalez, Naomi Scoot, and Gina Rodriguez were all considered to play Ajak.
Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman In the film And his performance is really good for the most part but the problem is he doesn't really do anything. It feels like he was a background character rather than a big part in the film . Now Dan Whitman Is a frustrating character for me to talk about because there's stuff I like about the character like he really cares about his team and he wanted to keep the universe imbalance but the problem is he doesn't do anything he doesn't wear his Black Knight Persona he doesn't even Participate in the final battle So well I think Dane Whitman is a fun character He's very forgettable in this film And that's really disappointing because I was hoping that he'll play a big role in the film. Now there are good moments with damn Whitman like the scene where he talks to his team about what The Celestials do for the universe or him Fighting off the deviance it does wait to some fun and interesting moments but out of all the characters he had the least memorable moments out of all the characters in this film. The chemistry between him and Angelina Jolie is outstanding.
Gemma Chan plays Sersi In the film And her performance is really fun and really entertaining she did they spectacular job as this character but the weird thing is is that she was already in the MCU where she played that blue alien from Captain Marvel and I feel like they should cast somebody else as the character. Now that being said however she is still entertaining in this film. Now the character of Sersi Is probably my favorite character of the entire film because she's like this mother like figure who really cared about the other Eternals because they're sort of like her family if you want to help them restore balance to the universe and made sure nothing fall apart. The scenes Sersi Are incredible whether it is her telling Druig that they can't interfere Or her getting taken by Arishem The Judge and She explains to him that Ajax was killed by a deviant and It doesn't lead to some really Intense and heart pounding moments throughout the film Fun Fact actresses like Marie Averopoulos, Sofia Boutella, and Tatiana Maslany were all considered to play Sersi.
Kumail Nanjiani plays Kingo In the film and out of all the performances in this film he probably gives the month fun and entertaining performance of the entire film. Now the character of Kingo is probably my favorite character of the entire film because he is really funny but he also does have a heart he really cared about his fellow Eternals and wants to keep the universe imbalance and the themes with Kingo are really incredible whether it is him dancing and telling Icarus that he's playing him in a musical or him trying to get Sprite's attention with the camera and she just flips them off it does weed to some really funny and some really entertainment moments in the film. The chemistry between him and Angelina Jolie is astounding.
Lia McHugh plays Sprite in the film And her performance is incredible because she gives the most emotional and outstanding performance of the entire film you can tell that she is having a lot of fun as this character. Now the character of Sprite is really interesting because she's not really a villain but she does turn on her team because she had they crush on Icarus and wants to stay with him because she's actually a woman trapped in a little girl's body so you're going to tell why she has such a strong bond with Ikaris throughout the film. The themes with Sprite are incredible whether it's her bonding with Icarus or her turning on a team and joining Icarus it does lead to some really heart pounding and some really heartbreaking moments throughout the film because they trusted Sprite but she turned on essentially her own family because the Eternals see themselves at a family. The chemistry between her and Angelina Jolie is perfect.
David Kyle voices Arishem The Judge in the film. I have to say he still does a glorious job as this character. Now Airshem The Judge as a character An incredible because he's essentially the overarching villain of the film he the one that watching over the universe and his motivations is that he doesn't want the eternals to interfere with anything Because he's essentially God who is wanting everything to be imbalanced the way it So nothing bad happens to the universe. The scene Arishem The Judge punishes Sersei by banishing her it was a darkest moment of the entire film because she broke the roll because the rule was not to interfere with anything but her and her team undead the balance of the universe and that is why Arishem The Judge past judgment on to her and imprisoned her. It is probably one of the most disturbing moments of the entire film. Fun fact actors like Tom Hiddleston, Vin Diesel, Morgan Freeman, James Earl Jones, Liam Neeson, and Keanu Reeves were all considered to voice Arishem The Judge. The chemistry between him and Gemma Chan is excellent.
Lauren Ridloff plays Makkari In the film and her performance is probably one of the most interesting performances of the entire film because even though she doesn't talk she is still able to give a really raw and beautiful performance as the character of Makkari. Now The character of Makkari Is it really fun and really emotional character because she really cares about the Eternals she wants to help them keep the universe balance and made sure no bad consequences happen to any of them. The scenes with Makkari are terrific whether it is her battling Icarus with her fellow Eternals or her her telling Druig About how much she really cares and loves him. It does lead to some really powerful and some really heartwarming moments throughout the film. Fun fact actress Millie Bobby Brown was considered to play Sprite.
Barry Keoghan plays Druig In the film And he probably gives one the most captivating and emotional performances of the entire film because you can tell that he is having a lot of fun as this character. Now the character of Druig Is probably my second favorite eternal of the entire film because he doesn't take a nonsense from anybody he doesn't crack a jokes Because he's kind of sick of falling the celestials ruled and wants the eternals to break their rules because he's sick of being controlled by them so you can kind of buying beans spiteful toward the team because he doesn't like falling God's orders that is Of course Arishem the judge. The scenes with Druig Are Incredible whether it's him telling the Internal that they don't have to fall the Celestials or him seeing Sersi getting taken by the Celestials and he is freaking out he's having this panic attack because he really cares about her and it does weed to sound really intense and some really depressing stuff in the film and it works perfectly because dis kind of a rebel in the scent that he doesn't like following the celestials orders throughout the film. Fun fact actors like Keanu Reeves, Dev Patel, Tom Holland, John Boyega, Harry Styles, Nicholas Halt, Taron Edgerton, Timothy Chalamet, Luke Evans, Remi Malek, and Ian McShane were all considered to play Druig. Also here is another fun fact 2 years after this film was released Barry Keoghan went on to play Oliver Quick in thee 2023 film Saltburn. The chemistry between him and Angelina Jolie is awesome.
However the absolute big stead out of the entire film is Richard Madden as Ikaris because he gives a really powerful and Incredible performance as this character. Now Icarus is a really complex and interesting character because when your first introduced to him in the film he is our main character you know he wants to keep the world imbalanced but at the film regrets if he becomes more unstable to the point that he turns on the eternals because he doesn't want them to interfere with the Celestials And decides to kill his fellow team. I have to say Icarus is probably up there with Xu Wenwu from Shang Chi As one of my favorite phase 4 villains in the MCU. The scenes with Ikaris are incredible Whether it is him being with his fellow Eternals or him turning on the eternals and having Sprite join him it does lead to some really powerful and some really amazing dark moments in the film And it does give you a really awesome twist the fact that Icarus was the main villain the whole time. I think Icarus is up there with The Void from Thunderbolts* as one of my favorite villains in the MCU. Fun fact actors like Armie Hammer, Sam Heughan, Charile Hunnam, Alexander Skarsgard, Joe Kennard, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Lewis, and Zack Duhame were All considered to play Ikaris.
The directing by Chlo ´ e Zhao. Is interesting because I think for the most part she does a glorious job directing this film I love how she bathed this movie around family because the eternals are like a family they care about one another and don't want anything bad happen to any of them But at the film goes on the The Eternal default part some of them turn on one another Some of them outright get killed and it does wait to some really heart pounding and emotional moments in the film. I also like how she develops none of the characters in particular both Sprite and Ikaris because Sprite isn't really a valence she's just misunderstood because she had a crush on Icarus and wants to marry him and stay with him but she can't do that because she's actually a woman trapped their little girl's body. Now as for Ikaris here they man who believes he's doing the right thing trying to keep everything in bounds with the universe so nothing bad happens but he's going about it the wrong way. Now I will say though I wish she actually developed Dane Whitman because it felt like she put him in the background and the film didn't really do anything with him. Also I feel like some of the characters could have been cut out because there's a lot of characters and I think it should have been only like five eternals not 10 but I think other than that she did a decent job of directing this film. Fun fact directors like Nicole Kassell, Cristina Gallego, Ciro Guerra, and Travis Knight were considered to direct this movie.
So in conclusion i still really enjoyed this film I thought the storyline was really interesting haven it revolve around these God like creatures called Eternals to watch over the universe to make sure everything is imbalance and prevent any Cosmic threat from destroying the planet and them having to fight a member of their teammate that being Icarus and Killed these aliens called the devians if they brilliant idea and I think for the most part the film execute the storyline pretty well there are moments where the storyline come becomes a little bit of a mess but I will say that the storyline the lawn mower interesting than in Black Widow because I just found the storyline that film is just so forgettable because anyways with this film is a new concept for the MCU. Also I think the performances are incredible especially from Salma Hayek and Richard Madden both of those actors do a glorious job as Ajak and Ikaris because both of the actors are having a lot of fun and does characters. Also I will say as weird as it was to have Gemma Chan play Sersei she did a good job too I thought her performance was very heartwarming and very emotional in fact she gives the most emotional performance of the entire film. Also the action thing would says we're really incredible especially that file battle where the Eternal are fighting against Ikaris that is probably is probably up there with the climax in Iron Man 2 as the one the most underrated MCU final battles. I don't think Icarus add the villain really worked I thought his motivations were really good having him wanting to keep the universe and balance and not have the Eternals interfere and cause any more bad luck to the universe was a great motivation I think his romance with Sprite was really good and really try to because he does have good intentions of protecting the universe he does go about it the wrong way. I think Ikaris is up there with Xu Wenwu from Shang Chi as one of my favorite villains in the MCU. Also I feel like you didn't really need Kro as a villain he was just really boring and Bill Skarguard is a good actor but he was horribly wasted in the film. I think they could just cut him out and the movie was not any different. Also I feel like there are too many characters in this film. I think if the film focuses around like five eternals it would have been more consistent and I think this should have been a TV show rather than a movie. That way you could have developed more of the Eternals than I think Damn Whitman would have been a character rather than just being a background character. But aside from those things I highly recommend you watch the film and give that a chance before you call it one of the worst MCU films of all time. Now again it's not a perfect MCU film because I did think other MCU films like Ant-Man, Iron Man, Thor, guardian of the Galaxy are way better MCU films. But I think this film is entertaining. I give this film a 7/10.
